Water Mitigation for Burlington Businesses

7/21/2022 (Permalink)

Water mitigation services for your business should be left to the pros. Call SERVPRO for their expert techs for the job.

SERVPRO of Bristol Provides Commercial Water Mitigation Services

Water damage in businesses can get costly. An untreated faucet leak alone can emit a whopping 250 gallons of water per month, impacting upkeep costs significantly, especially for small business owners. Worse still, winters in Burlington put pipes at risk of freezing and bursting, creating even more costly repair and replacement needs.

SERVPRO can begin water mitigation for Burlington commercial properties within hours of initial franchise contact. This firm is staffed with the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-certified technicians that use industrial-grade tools and OSHA-approved antimicrobial solutions to prepare spaces for repairs.

Pipe Burst At The Burlington Library and Elsewhere

In early January of 2018, the Burlington Public Library endured damages resulting from a frozen sprinkler pipe bursting in the facility’s children’s section. The pipe was successfully repaired, and the surrounding area was restored. However, the building required several days of closure to perform repairs. A total of 78 books were damaged, and the library backdated returns to avoid accidental late fees.

According to a study of over 400 burst pipe insurance claims by Philadelphia Insurance Companies:

  • Sprinkler pipes caused-51% of claims studied.
  • Sprinkler-related claims were 33% more expensive than domestic pipe failures on average.
  • Average losses caused by frozen pipes were approximately $27,000, with the most costly claim in the survey generating a whopping $1.7 million in damages.
  • Damage is more costly for sprinkler failures that occur in multi-story structures, particularly residential facilities and properties that require specialized equipment maintenance and sterile conditions.
  • The older the building, the more likely it needs code updates that can lower the risk of frozen pipes bursting.

Tactics businesses can take to safeguard against potential losses include cost-effective measures like:

  • Installing leak sensors
  • Implementing flow detection and shutoff systems
  • Improving heating and insulation on the property, especially in cold and drafty areas

It is imperative for businesses to ensure that their buildings are up to code to avoid costly disasters as much as possible.

How Does SERVPRO Clean Furniture and Fixtures Affected by Burst Pipes?

SERVPRO implements commercial water mitigation with the help of a variety of tools and techniques. A frozen pipe bursting in a restaurant kitchen, for example, can require the following:

  • Inspection of floor tiles for signs of damage to the grout
  • Extensive water extraction to prepare the damaged area for drying
  • Sanitation of surfaces with EPA-registered biocides, including SERVPRO’s proprietary solutions
  • Removal of cabinet toe-kicks and wall baseboards for structural drying

Drying commences with the help of centrifugal air movers positioned at 45-degree angles in relation to walls every 10 to 16 linear feet. These devices act in tandem with commercial-grade dehumidifiers to remove moisture from surfaces, pull it into the air, pass it across refrigerant coils or desiccant materials, and expel dry air that returns humidity to normal levels. Moisture is isolated as condensation and collected for disposal in a treated sewer.

SERVPRO is Fast and Efficient in Managing Flood Damage in Bristol

7/21/2022 (Permalink)

Don't let flood damage take over your property, Call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330.

Mitigating Effects of Flood Damage in Bristol Homes

Flood damage can wreak havoc on your Bristol home, affecting the structural components and contents. Hiring a professional restoration company like SERVPRO can help limit the extent of the loss and prevent any secondary damages.

SERVPRO techs use a multi-step approach to mitigate the flood damage to your Bristol homes. Removing the standing flood water is the first step of the restoration process. SERVPRO techs use several types of extracting equipment and pumps to get the water out of your flooded home as soon as possible. However, controlling microbial growth is a significant challenge as floodwater after a storm is always contaminated.

Steps in Controlling Microbial Growth During Flood Restoration

SERVPRO techs stick to the guidelines set forth by the IICRC during the restoration of flood damage to your Bristol home. Since the presence of water promotes and sustains microbial growth, the primary steps in mitigation of the damage are:

  • Removing any contaminated material
  • Removing the residual moisture by reducing the humidity

SERVPRO techs focus on drying the structure as soon as possible rather than relying on chemical agents to control microbial growth. Although the antimicrobials can be a good defense against the proliferation of microbes, they are helpful only if considered as an additional step after the primary mitigation steps mentioned above.

SERVPRO techs only use EPA-registered broad-spectrum biocides when water damage presents a potential for contamination, such as in a flooded home. Techs also ensure that the customers are briefed regarding the professional biocides being used on their property, and we never apply any product without your prior consent.

We are committed to helping you in these trying times and restoring your home “Like it never even happened.” Call SERVPRO of Bristol with questions or queries at (860) 582-3330.

How Can Larger Bristol Office Complexes Contend with Mold?

7/21/2022 (Permalink)

For the threat that mold can become to your office staff and your clients, professional mold remediation companies like our SERVPRO team can help.

Microbial threats can be a hazard and destructive to structural elements, making it a substantial concern for your Bristol office complex.

Regardless of how diligent custodial staff might be in your Bristol office complex, water disasters can often leave moisture and dampness concerns out of sight. Even though the surface water gets addressed and the facility seems fine, absorption might have moved water to areas that you cannot easily see or inspect. Often it is most beneficial to seek out professional restoration companies for water disasters and emergencies. However, after the incident occurs, you should ensure that you have fully addressed the concerns. Without removing moisture from structural cavities and trapped water in materials, you could contend with mold growth on a severe scale.

While you might seek mold removal for Bristol offices, what is really necessary is mold remediation. We cannot remove all naturally occurring spores in every environment, but we can address the immediate damage that these organisms can cause to the structural elements and contents within your office building. We can help with efficient recovery practices from the damage to documentation and records to structural deterioration of drywall, carpeting, and other sensitive materials. Understanding the standard methods for remediation and site recovery can help to showcase the need for these services as soon as you believe mold exists on the property. Addressing microbial threats often involves:

  • Evaluation and Testing
  • Content Inventory and Containment
  • Remediation Solutions
  • Post-Remediation Repairs and Reconstruction

What Can Environmental Testing Tell You?

Sampling and testing the environment where mold might exist can be very beneficial in determining your facility's state. Often, when you believe that mold damage exists, it can be a pressing concern for your staff and clients' safety and well-being. Industrial hygienists can help in this regard through a series of air samples examined at a laboratory to reveal pertinent information about the structure and any microbial threats present. Results of these tests often convey:

  • Likelihood of Mold Growth – Mold growth is not always visible and might not appear on surfaces for weeks after colonization begins. Testing the air reveals when experts believe mold colonization has likely started.
  • Spore Concentration – The concentrations of spores in the affected environment can tell our technicians and the property owner what measures should get taken to alleviate these concerns. Air scrubbers and other filtration equipment can often help in this regard.
  • Type of Mold Present – Testing the specific kind of mold is beneficial to understand the measures necessary to remove it efficiently. With thousands of structural mold and fungus types, the right approach and cleaning measures can save time and money.

What Pre-Remediation Tasks Benefit Your Office?

Several measures can help your office building to reduce loss during a mold growth threat. Our remediation professionals can oversee several initial tasks to protect both the structure and its occupants. These practices also fixate on reducing the deterioration and irreparable damage that contents and documentation can often suffer when exposed to microbial threats. Some of these techniques include:

  • Content Management – The relocation and removal of potentially damaged content and records from your office space can eliminate irreparable damage concerns. When exposure has already occurred, on-site drying and recovery methods are needed.
  • Containment – Establishing a drying zone can help not only regulate airflow and humidity but can also prevent the migration of mold spores.
  • Establishing a Staging Area – An adjacent space to the work area is ideal for storing equipment and drying tools necessary for remediation and cleaning.

What Remediation Tactics Are the Most Effective?

Mold remediation can involve several different approaches depending on the materials affected and the condition of your office space. Drywall in individual offices often requires a different approach to microbial concerns on glue-down carpets in the communal areas shared by many employees. Usually, removing mold colonies involves several practices working simultaneously, including sanding, media blasting, surface cleaning, and demolition.

When Does Build Back Occur?

Reconstruction is one of the final stages in getting your office doors back open again after a mold damage situation. We can seamlessly transition to rebuilding and repairs after remediation and cleaning, from replacing wall systems and flooring materials to long-term solutions to prevent recurrences.

For the threat that mold can become to your office staff and your clients, professional mold remediation companies like our SERVPRO of Bristol team can help. We have experienced technicians to respond quickly to these emergencies when you call (860) 582-3330.

Burlington Homeowners Often Call SERVPRO for Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration

6/22/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Says--Do Not Despair After Fire and Smoke Damage to Your Bristol Home! We Can Help.

Even a Small-Scale Fire Can Bring on Significant Odor Damage in Burlington

Any fire that doesn't leave much visible fire damage can seem like it is easy for the homeowner to address. However, it is essential to look past the task of water cleanup to tackle the soot and smoke that permeates all porous materials leaving behind both residue and odor.

SERVPRO technicians can table any odors that fire damage in Burlington leaves behind. We can come out to your home to assess the building materials to determine if residual moisture is present. Proper drying helps while also using specialized techniques, and our certified technicians work to determine the span of the odor. We can then implement measures that help to contain particles and smell to keep them from spreading out and contaminating other areas.

Our specialists are odor control technicians (OCT) at SERVPRO, helping eliminate any offensive odors. We have various resources for taking on stubborn smells that fire leaves behind. A complete wipe-down of any affected areas can be done using high-grade cleaners with dry and wet sponges, depending on the residue present. We also have air scrubbers using HEPA filter technology along with activated charcoal filters that encapsulate even the most minuscule odor-causing particles.

Should there still be stubborn smells left behind, SERVPRO technicians can implement thermal fogging technology to help eliminate any unpleasant scents in the home. A thermal fogger works by releasing a heated, solvent-based deodorizer. This dry fog process works just like the smoke from a fire, permeating and also neutralizing any lingering odors present in building materials and porous items. Special preparation is needed before this odor-defeating action takes place.

Never let foul odors linger from fire damage throughout your home. Call us today at SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 to speak with one of our knowledgeable office staffers. We can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to visit your home for unpleasant odor elimination to make it "Like it never even happened."

Anatomy Of A Residential Burlington Water Removal Project

Suppose you can get through most of Burlington homeownership without a significant water loss. In that case, the mechanics of professional water evacuation and structural drying can seem overwhelming. Understanding the whys and hows of water mitigation and remediation helps push past the stress and confusion that accompanies the aftermath of broken plumbing, malfunctioning appliances, and storm flooding. Here is a brief explanation of the tasks, tools, and methods used to rid your residence of water.

The first thing our team does when responding to a Burlington water removal job is complete a thorough assessment. No two water emergencies are the same, so it is crucial to ascertain each scenario's aspects. Then, we develop a plan for both removing the water and drying out the structure. These phases are both essential and interrelated.

Every water mitigation and remediation project has its goal of returning the structure and fixtures to average moisture levels. The more liquid water removed at the beginning of the job, the faster and more efficient professional drying efforts can be. SERVPRO invests in commercial grade pumps and wanded extractors to accomplish rapid and extensive water removal. Water depths two inches or more respond well to pumping, and the extractors suction the remaining visible water.

If carpeting covers any wet floors, SERVPRO Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained technicians first mitigate water migration with wanded extractors, then change to weighted tools to start the in-place remediation. Many passes, carefully executed to avoid stretching, tearing, and delamination, eventually pull out as much fluid as possible.

Baseline moisture measurements taken with pin and pinless meters provide data throughout the project, keeping technicians informed and on track. SERVPRO also uses thermal imaging technology to locate any hidden caches of water that are collected in cavities between walls, beneath floors, or above ceilings. Weep holes or other controlled demolition techniques like flood cuts give us access to the water and enhance drying efforts when they begin.

Structural drying involves air movers, heaters, and evaporative or desiccant dehumidifiers. Our technicians plan a drying perimeter, adjustable as water moves from building materials into the air as a vapor for capture and disposal.

Trust the professionals at SERVPRO of Bristol to safely and completely remove water threatening the integrity of your home. Call day or night to schedule a consultation at (860) 582-3330.

How to Remove Fire Odors From Your Plainville Home

5/16/2022 (Permalink)

Soot and ash deposits also leave an odor that penetrates surfaces. SERVPRO of Bristol has the technology to remove the smoky odor.

Why Odor Removal is a Big Part of Our Professional Fire Damage Restorations in Plainville

There are many aspects of fire damage mitigation and restoration work that require specialized training and equipment to handle, but one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of our work is odor removal. Our treatments include intense odor removal work to leave your home looking and smelling "Like it never even happened." Removing the smells of smoke and fire from your home requires the use of highly specialized fogging machines and specially-designed odor-neutralizing chemicals that our technicians train for weeks to use correctly. Conventional household air fresheners and odor masking agents fail to cover the smells of smoke - but why?

Part of the problem lies in just how much smoke, and ash fire damage in Plainville creates. The small cans of air fresheners and odor-eliminating chemicals you can purchase off store shelves would have to be spread impossibly thin to cover all of the odor-causing particles present in a fire-damaged home. SERVPRO technicians use thermal fogging machines that create a thick cloud of odor neutralizing agents to ensure that no part of your home retains any foul odors. These machines can even reach into cracks, pores, and other microscopic refuges for odors in your home.

However, even if we stocked our fogging machines with as many store-brand cleaning agents as possible, we would not be able to provide very effective odor elimination services. SERVPRO stocks only the most efficient odor reduction agents on the market, some of them designed and used exclusively for our technicians. We even change up the exact mixtures we use depending on the volume and chemical properties of smoke and ash in your home to ensure that we apply the right treatments every time.

SERVPRO of Bristol provides thorough and experienced fire damage mitigation and restoration services for homes in the area. Call us 24/7 after a fire at (860) 582-3330.

SERVPRO Performs Several Water Damage Repairs

Understanding the expected course of repairs and reconstruction after water damage can allow homeowners to be more confident in their work. As overwhelming as structural damage can be, we have licensed professionals capable of working quickly to help.

Controlled Demolition and Discarding Material

Water damage repair for Bristol homes must first start with controlled demolition. Heavily saturated materials must often be demolished and discarded to access damaged plumbing or structural cavities. Commonly impacted materials include:

  • Drywall
  • Flooring
  • Carpeting
  • Subflooring
  • Insulation

Plumbing and Fixture Repairs

As commonly as water pipes can cause the damage that affects your home, these are a focal point of repairs necessary. Homeowners need water service to their property, and this is compromised if a pipe is broken or leaking. We can replace portions of the plumbing, connections, fittings, gaskets, and fixtures to stop the unfavorable conditions.

Wall System Reconstruction

With the plumbing repaired, we can work on rebuilding the removed wall system allowing access to the pipes and fixtures. Insulation can be reinstalled, and any supporting material like wood framing gets replaced where necessary. In most cases, the outside of wall systems is covered with drywall, finishing the rudimentary build back of this full assembly.

Refinishing Surfaces

As important as the repairs are to the house after water and flood damage, we must also take several necessary steps to finish the newly installed surfaces. For example, contractors must finish the drywall by sealing its seams and over screws for a smooth finish ready for primer and painting. This is how our SERVPRO team makes water damage “Like it never even happened.”

Water exposure usually requires some degree of repair and reconstruction after substantial disasters. Our SERVPRO of Bristol team can help with licensed contractors to quickly repair the home and get you back to normal life. Call now at (860) 582-3330.

Salvaging Contents By Enlisting Professional Fire Damage Restoration Services In Burlington

Households are full of memories and valuables that have been built up over several years or decades. It is why a house fire can be so emotionally taxing for a homeowner who risks losing not only money but sentimental items. Our fire restoration technicians work with a restore over replace mentality that saves expense and possessions that may be irreplaceable. Our professionals communicate with you every step of the way. They can even help you with insurance paperwork by creating an inventory of items and conditions in the home.

A homeowner with fire damage in Burlington may be tempted to restore items themselves using household cleaning products. Unfortunately, on some smoke residues, household products spread staining around or push soots deeper into the material. SERVPRO uses a sublimation method that involves dissolving the soots in a solvent before wiping away both solvent and residue. We pre-test materials to determine whether soiling is oil or water-based and match our chemical agents to suit each type and ensure the best results.

The vast majority of smoke residues left behind by fire are present on walls and ceilings. During cleaning, paintwork may be worn away, especially if the smoke residues require chemical agents to remove. Removing soiling is essential to remove the odor. Still, once the property is clean and dry, a SERVPRO technician can repaint or refinish surfaces to get your home back to its pre-incident condition.

In slow-burning fires, usually the result of a synthetic material combusting, hot smoke can pressure surfaces for an extended period resulting in the wearing away of varnish or other wood finishes. SERVPRO can deploy sand or soda blasting techniques to remove thick soots before refinishing the wood later. At the end of service, our inventory of goods and services can be passed over to your insurance adjuster, reducing paperwork and letting you get back to your everyday life “Like it never even happened.”

A homeowner dealing with soots or smoke residues should prioritize professional restoration services to gain the best chance of restoring contents and structure to a pre-damaged condition. Contact SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 now.

Bristol Welcomes SERVPRO for Property Damage Restoration Services

Can Bristol Residents Get Their Homes Back to preloss Condition Using SERVPRO Restoration Services?

Property disasters can strike at any time, causing unexpected damages to your property and contents. Most homeowners do not have the equipment or the qualifications to rectify these conditions themselves, so our locally owned and operated restoration services are available to both private residences and commercial businesses here in Bristol. It all starts with a phone call to our twenty-four-hour emergency line. From there, our customer service team can arrange a call out with a certified local technician to assess the damage, reduce losses, and restore contents or structure.

Mold

Microbes are bacteria, fungi, and viruses that are so small they are invisible to the naked eye. A microbial growth incident may involve microscopic mold spores that germinate in moist, humid conditions creating large, visible colonies. Mold Damage in your Bristol home does not necessarily make your home unsafe; there are beneficial properties to mold, such as antibiotic penicillin. However, they can create unpleasant odors and soil and have a negative impact on your indoor air quality.

SERVPRO operates advanced assessment and remediation services for mold incidents using technicians local to the Bristol area. Our team can remove microscopic spores from your home using air scrubbers with High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters to remove potential contamination issues. We place these air scrubbers on the property during service to ensure that mold issues do not recur after service has finished.

Storm

Violent storms can cause damage to Bristol properties through unexpected flash flooding and contaminated water issues. Floodwaters are treated as infectious waste incidents since water can travel several miles before entering the property and absorb pesticides, pathogens, and raw sewage along the journey. We provide a proven procedure for homeowners with storm damage here in Bristol and an established game plan for safely removing and restoring contaminated water.

Infectious wastes encompass all kinds of harmful pathogens and bacteria. In water, these bacteria can become absorbed by porous materials creating an ongoing health issue in your home. Since pathogens are hazardous to human health, SERVPRO restoration services can remove and dispose of infected structures or contents. Our technicians are equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely enter and perform mitigation services.

Water

Water incidents do not have to be extensive to cause water damage in your Bristol home. Often these issues reside in wall cavities or other areas of restricted access that can make thorough drying tough. SERVPRO technicians can use two unique systems to get your home back to its natural dry level. The first system is an open-system drying method, whereas the second procedure is a closed system drying method. Depending on the architecture, climate, and damages, technicians can choose to use one.

Open system drying involves using outdoor air to dry an affected area. During warmer periods of the year. The core principle of open-system drying is to promote evaporation using drying equipment like box fans, rapid air-movers, and temperature, then exchanging the evaporated moisture in the air with drier air from outside. Typically, the exchange is done by opening windows and encouraging fluid air movement using centrifugal motion.

Closed system drying involves creating a concentrated drying area and dehumidification equipment to create an air exchange. This method can be productive during colder periods of the year or when there is restricted access to the affected area. The principles are generally the same, although closed system drying allows for more temperature control. The air holds more moisture at higher temperatures, speeding up the drying process. Desiccant dehumidifiers are then placed in the work area to remove that moisture from the air and avoid humidity-related issues like mold growth.

Fire

Particulate odors are unpleasant and can be absorbed into furnishings or reside in cavities after fire damage in your Bristol home. These odors can range from mild aromas to pungent smells depending on the types of material that combust. Generally speaking, synthetic materials or animal fats give off stronger, lasting odors that need to be treated using powerful deodorizing chemicals. SERVPRO offers odor control as part of our fire restoration services to remove or neutralize malodor.

A SERVPRO odor control technician (OCT) faces many challenges in a fire-damaged property. Not only are smoke-related malodors challenging to find, other factors, such as water used in firefighting procedures, can loosen or release odors from furnishings and other porous materials. High humidity levels also cause odor to become more apparent. The principle of removing odors involves recreating the dispersal method that initially spreads the odor. We can do that using two distinct ways.

Malodors are often carried through the smoke, containing chemicals, including monoxide and other possible carcinogens. SERVPRO uses thermal ultra-low volume (ULV) foggers to disperse a chemical pairing agent into the affected area or throughout the home. These pairing agents bond with odor-causing particles causing them to drop to the floor where they can be cleaned away. The second method is using spray-on odor masking agents. These liquid deodorants are suitable for use on furnishings or fabrics that may have absorbed odor particles through the water. Frequently, drying the structure can help reduce the impact of odors in your home and remove an unpleasant reminder of the fire incident.

Most Bristol Homeowners Unaware of Gradual Water Damage

Sure, we all know relatively quickly when there is a significant pipe rupture in our homes. This is undoubtedly the stuff of most homeowners’ nightmares. The fear of overcoming such a sudden catastrophic and costly event is enough to put fear into anyone. Of course, another far less considered danger to your property is the gradual water damage caused by slow-leaking pipes and everyday condensation. These threats, while slow, can have the same impact on your property over time as a sudden major water leak.

The gradual water damage every Bristol homeowner eventually encounters results from many different sources. One of the most prominent is the everyday condensation occurring during and after hot baths and showers. Condensation can also occur simply from normal temperature variations within your house, especially in basements, throughout the year. When the hot air from baths/showers or rooms heated by daytime temperatures cools, it forms water droplets all over the area. As time passes, this recurring water causes fungus, mold, and mildew to form on surfaces. It also causes materials to warp, drywall to deteriorate, and leads to dry rot in wooden walls and furnishings. Another culprit of slow water damage in Bristol is unnoticeable slow-leaking pipes. Concealed behind walls and in cabinets, pipes with slight leaks do not produce enough water to attract your attention until it’s often too late. Rather than deluging your rooms, water from these leaks merely gets absorbed into walls, floors, and furniture. Unfortunately, this eventually leads to, among other things, drywall collapses and furniture warping.

The only real way to catch these silent, creeping issues in time is to have your home periodically inspected and treated. There are several Bristol area services, like SERVPRO, that can do this for you. SERVPRO has specialized equipment, including moisture sensors and meters, which can precisely detect moisture levels in walls, baseboards, and carpets long before it can do any permanent damage. After detecting moisture, SERVPRO technicians can precisely locate what is causing the problem and fix it. Then, using dehumidifiers, we can dry the air and extract moisture from/restore affected materials. Afterward, our professionals can use ultra-low volume foggers to treat walls and other wooden items with dry rot-preventing fungicides. Our workers can also disinfect and deodorize affected areas with their foggers.

As a responsible homeowner, keep a watchful eye on your investment. Periodically have your home inspected for water damage. If you need help, call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330.

SERVPRO Contains and Isolates Mold and Spores during Remediation in Bristol Homes to Prevent Cross-Contamination--Why Not Get It Done Right?

Advantages of Soda Blasting Mold During Bristol Remediation

Abrasive cleaning techniques can be a reliable method of remediation in Bristol homes. While there are multiple layers of a microbial threat to remove when colonization starts, including both the physical mold organism growing on the material and the harsh musty odor that gets emitted from active growth, there are efficient strategies to address both of these conditions. Cleaning up mold effects on relatively undamaged construction materials requires a focused cleaning tactic involving compressed air and varying media.

Soda and media blasting can both diminish the microbial threat in your house and help to reduce widespread controlled demolition during mold remediation of Bristol properties. While many circumstances might demand the removal of overly deteriorating construction materials like drywall and wood trim, prompt response with the proper techniques can reduce total property losses from expanding microbial colonies. Soda blasting requires sophisticated equipment and trained technicians, which is an advantage that our accredited SERVPRO Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) bring to the table after locating mold damage in your home.

Using compressed air along with baking soda, walnuts, sand, or other media options, we can begin to remove surface mold and even underlying concerns beyond the top layer. Soda blasting can be instrumental in removing seated portions of mold colonies, affecting the entire hyphae of the organism. The objective of this abrasive cleaning technique is to remove surface concerns without damaging the substrate underneath.

While media blasting as a whole cannot serve as a deodorization action, the use of these techniques can help to reduce the severity and spread of musty odors in the house. Much like volatile compounds that can emit from active colonies, distinctive odors are also a concern that can penetrate porous surfaces, fabrics, and soft materials. Abrasive cleaning can remove the colonies, which can noticeably reduce the concentration of unwanted scents, as well. For the same reason, we often keep an open box of baking soda in the fridge.

Mold colonization can lead to health effects for those exposed, so remediation should begin as soon as possible when you discover these threats in your house. No matter how our AMRTs can help, give our SERVPRO of Bristol rapid response team a call today at (860) 582-3330.

SERVPRO Can Help with Commercial Water Damage Restoration in Your Bristol Business

When it gets cold at night, it is always possible that the pipes inside your clothing store can freeze and break. You might arrive to open up your business one morning and notice water on your floor. Once moisture leaks from a pipe and gets into your dwelling, it can raise the relative humidity levels in your buildings and possibly create other secondary issues.

When restoring commercial water damage in Bristol, our SERVPRO technicians know that conducting work so your business can stay operating is essential. In some situations, we can complete the work procedures in sections so that your business can stay functioning. For example, we can extract the moisture from your wet flooring one area at a time so that your employees can keep working as usual. We can then set up fans and air movers so that the equipment is not in the way of your employees' and customers' foot traffic.

Services We Offer That Can Return Your Office to its Pre-Damaged State

  • Water Extraction Services
  • Water Damage Repairs
  • Water Damage Debris Removal
  • Applied Structural Drying (ASD)
  • Restorative Carpet Cleaning

After we extract all of the liquid H2O from your flooring and all of your building materials return to average moisture levels, we can remove all of our equipment and start the final cleaning stage. When items like your flooring or upholstered furniture get wet, it tends to attract soils.

Therefore, we can clean all of your carpets and upholstered furniture using the cleaning tools attached to our truck-mounted extractor. We can also use a rotary floor machine for tile and linoleum floors.

If you notice water on the floors of your retail store when you arrive in the morning, call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330.

SERVPRO Offers Premier Flood Water Removal Services in Burlington

3/4/2022 (Permalink)

If flood waters wreak havoc on your property, call the professionals at SERVPRO of Bristol.

Why is SERVPRO so Efficient in Flood Water Removal in Burlington Homes?

Flood water removal from your Burlington home is the primary focus of SERVPRO techs during the flood restoration process. The extent and severity of the damage are directly affected by how quickly the restorers can remove the floodwater from your property.

SERVPRO techs use several pieces of equipment to speed up the flood water removal from your Burlington home. Pumps are some of the most efficient tools to remove standing water from properties after a flooding incident. SERVPRO techs use centrifugal pumps that convert the rotational energy to move floodwater out of the property. The three most commonly used pumps include:

  • Self-priming trash pumps
  • High-pressure pumps
  • Submersible pumps

When do SERVPRO Techs use Submersible Pumps During Flood Restoration in Burlington?

Submersible pumps are the most common pump used in water restoration in Burlington homes. The submersible pumps offer several advantages over other types of pumps, including:

  • Eliminate the suction lift limitation
  • Provide a continuous operation
  • Don’t make a lot of noise
  • Operate on electricity

Some of the portable submersible pumps that SERVPRO techs use can move up to 18,000 gallons of water per hour and provide almost 70 feet of discharge head. As these pumps operate on electricity, they are ideal for occupied spaces.

Limitations of Submersible Pumps

While submersible pumps offer many advantages, they are not immune to drawbacks. One of the biggest limitations of a submersible pump is that it can’t be used if there is a lot of suspended solid material in the accumulated water.

Can SERVPRO Eliminate Odors During Fire Restoration in Bristol Homes?

Removing odors from fire-damaged buildings is one of the toughest challenges for any restorer. Combating odor during fire restoration of your Bristol property requires a thorough understanding of the properties of the odor particles.

With years of experience under their belt, SERVPRO techs have mitigated many kinds of odors during fire restoration of Bristol properties. We use a combination of strategies to deodorize fire-damaged properties based on the deodorant's interaction with odor-causing particles.

How do Deodorizers Neutralize Odor During House Fire Cleanup in Bristol?

The three most important ways in which a deodorizer can remove odor from your fire-damaged Bristol home include:

  • Masking the odor: Some deodorants cover the malodors with more pleasant scents rather than eliminating them. SERVPRO techs use this strategy to combat imaginary odors.
  • Chemically transforming the odor particles: Some deodorants can combine with the odor-causing particles and alter their chemistry, rendering them odorless. Pairing agents, Ozone gas, and enzyme digesters work by this principle.
  • Adsorbing the odor-causing molecules from the air: Air scrubbers fitted with charcoal filters work by adsorbing the airborne odor particles. Once the filters trap the odor-causing particle, the perceived intensity of the odor declines.

Is it necessary to use multiple deodorization strategies?

One of the ways to ensure that the deodorization process is efficient is to use multiple strategies rather than relying on any single one. SERVPRO techs often use a combination of pairing agents and air scrubbers to deal with odor in house fires that involve protein residues.

  • Is aware of the proper equipment to accomplish the task
  • Knows how to operate any piece of equipment to enhance efficiency
  • Understands the importance of safety during the process

Why do SERVPRO Techs Use Inspection Devices During Flood Restoration in Bristol Homes?

Inspection or scoping involves locating the areas of the structures with intruded water and defining the extent to which structure and contents have absorbed moisture. Knowing the size of the damage is critical in designing the strategy that is best suited for the restoration of your flooded Bristol home.

Rather than guessing the extent of moisture, the SERVPRO techs rely on moisture sensing equipment to provide reliable data. A restoration strategy devised with accurate data saves time and the cost of the process. Some of the most commonly used devices that can sense moisture include:

What are Thermo-Hygrometers?

A Thermo-hygrometer is versatile equipment that allows the SERVPRO restorers to determine relative humidity, humidity ratio, vapor pressure, and dew point. You might see one of our restorers using this equipment during the initial inspection of your property.

Are Microbes an Issue During Bristol Water Restoration?

2/4/2022 (Permalink)

Keep your home fresh with SERVPRO of Bristol.

SERVPRO Can Handle Water Cleanup in Bristol Safely

When Bristol property owners turn on a tap, they are not thinking about the flow coming out of the faucet as having the potential for water damage in the house. In fact, sometimes, the situation can be far worse.

Water restoration in Bristol properties is handled safely by SERVPRO technicians first and foremost. It is not unusual for the technicians to test the water upon arrival to determine the presence of any harmful microbes or bacteria.

While water from a pipe break in a house initially poses no threat to bacteria or microbes, that water degrades rapidly. The colonies develop and spread as they are exposed to room temperatures and other conditions favorable to growth. How fast the water degrades depends on the temperatures, amount, and type of water. However, after 48 hours, even clean water requires handling with the same protocols as contaminated water. Microbes can contain bacteria that can enter a human body by:

  • Aspiration
  • Absorption
  • Swallowing

Safety Measures Taken by SERVPRO

The technicians wear both facial and body covering to prevent coming into contact with hazardous water conditions during the mitigation process. The technicians also have professional water treatment solutions to make the water safer during the restoration service.

It is crucial to go about the cleanup process as rapidly as possible to stop the water from degrading too much within the home before the restoration starts. The technicians work quickly after the water extraction to bring the interior air moisture levels under 60% to make the environment inhospitable for most types of mold and microbes that rely on elevated humidity to sustain themselves.

SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 brings years of experience and expertise to Bristol water restoration jobs. The certified, trained technicians are available 24/7 to make the damage to the home, "Like it never even happened."

Can SERVPRO Perform Mold Remediation Behind Bristol Kitchen Cabinets?

1/27/2022 (Permalink)

Call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 for assistance from a professional remediation company.

SERVPRO Technicians Can Inspect and Mitigation Any Size Mold Damage Issue in Bristol

A Bristol kitchen is a likely place to have a mold damage situation. Due to the amount of plumbing in this home area, a small leak or constant moisture from poor ventilation can lead to an infestation.

Clearing a Bristol kitchen through mold remediation involves several steps homeowners should outsource to professionals. Without steps such as containment and professional antifungal cleaners, the spores can unintentionally spread throughout the home.

Some of the steps necessary for a successful mold damage cleanup involve

  • Scoping the property to determine the scale of the damage
  • Securing the mitigation area using containment
  • Preventative actions to inhibit the return of the problem

Scoping is Vital

The technicians do not rely on visuals alone in a kitchen to ascertain the size of the mold growth. Through years of experience and continuing education, they know that mold can grow and spread behind and under cabinets or within wall cavities. The techs use different types of equipment to locate areas of elevated moisture, which are good prospects for mold colonies.

Securing the Kitchen

The techs take care when working on a mold remediation service and cover vents, doorways, and other areas to ensure that any airborne spores stay within the confines of the kitchen. The techs often combine barriers and equipment such as self-created negative air chambers to port airborne particulates outside the worksite.

Preventative Measures

Sometimes it is necessary to remove the cabinets to get to the mold growing behind the scenes. The technicians dry the surfaces and then treat them with antimicrobial cleaners and sealants. These actions inhibit the potential for mold to return and set up home again before repairs get made.

Bristol residents trust SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 for their mold remediation services. The certified technicians have extensive knowledge of handling all types of mold damage.

SERVPRO Safely Performs Fire Restoration in Burlington Homes

The fire restoration process in a Burlington property comes with many hazards. SERVPRO technicians have extensive training in handling the post-fire cleaning process safely.

SERVPRO technicians need to inspect many types of issues within a Burlington property before the fire damage cleanup can begin. Numerous areas need scoping, such as:

  • Electrical
  • The structural integrity of the home
  • Slip and fall dangers

Electrical Hazards

Often, electricity is not available after a house fire. SERVPRO technicians inspect the home to determine if the power is off entirely or only for a portion of the residential structure. The techs have the training to work around electrical wiring during the restoration service. Finding any areas where the current is live is crucial because water conducts electricity, and the wiring within the property may have gotten saturated during the fire extinguishing efforts. SERVPRO opts for the safest worksite possible and, if necessary, can turn off power to the home entirely and power their equipment with their generators.

Typical Structural Hazards

A house after a fire can have numerous issues that pose a threat to safety. The technicians wear protective clothing and have the training for the problems to be aware of within a home, such as falling debris, exposed nails, and keeping unauthorized individuals out of the residence.

Slip and Fall Physical Dangers

While this type of injury is usual, the issue can be avoided through simple preventative actions. The technicians look for slick surfaces from water or a covering in soot and put up the appropriate tape or barriers to keep people from walking through the area. A common problem is someone walking on a wet carpet and falling when their wet shoes contact a tile floor.

Are There Steps I Can Take to Prevent Water Damage Caused by an Ice Dam in Bristol?

12/30/2021 (Permalink)

Severe winter weather can cause ice damming, frozen pipes and many other disasters for your home. SERVPRO can Help!

SERVPRO Offers Emergency Services Including Water Removal in Bristol

During the early fall season, the most common cause of water damage tends to be pipes freezing and breaking. It often occurs during the first day where the temperature drops below freezing and people have not yet turned on their heaters or taken the necessary winterization steps. Preventing frozen pipes can be accomplished by covering them with insulation and ensuring your home stays above 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Frozen pipes and ice damming in Bristol are the most common sources of property damage during the fall and winter months. Pipe freezes happen more often during the first couple of months of the cold seasons, but an ice dam can form on your roof anytime after a snowstorm strikes.

In some cases, you can prevent ice dams from occurring by placing heated cables in zigzag patterns on the edge of your roof. But, if your house is prone to getting ice dams, more permanent fixes could be necessary. Ventilating your eaves and ridges can help prevent uneven temperatures on your roof by circulating cold air underneath it.

Another method to prevent ice dams is to make sure all of the ducts connected to your kitchen, bathroom, and dryer vents are exhausted to the outside and that they do not run through your attic. Sealing and insulating your ducts can also prevent heat from escaping into your attic and causing your roof to heat unevenly. You can seal around any penetrations into your building's exterior with caulk, including electrical cables and vent pipes.

However, if, despite your prevention efforts, you still get a water leak caused by frozen pipes or an ice dam, our SERVPRO technicians can assist you in the following ways:

How Does the Layout of a Burlington Home Influence Water Damage?

12/11/2021 (Permalink)

Water damage restoration services by SERVPRO are second to none. Call now for the help you home needs.

SERVPRO Looks Out for Layout-Fueled Deterioration or Impediments to Restoration

When you realize water is intruding into your Burlington home, you might focus on the amount and condition of the water involved since these two factors determine the level of damage involved and the necessary restoration processes. However, other factors also play some roles that influence the outcome.

The property layout is one easily dismissed aspect of water damage in Burlington homes, but it has a big impact. That is why SERVPRO customer support agents inquire about the house layout and the source of the leak when you make the first call. Getting such information helps ensure proper planning of the restoration process.

Some of the crucial aspects regarding the layout include whether:

  • The house is single or multistory
  • Spilled water affects one or several rooms
  • There is a basement, attic, or other concealed area

In a storied house, water leaks originating in upper levels can cause more destruction. The water can find a way through the floor surface, run through the joists and wall frames, spreading moisture over vast areas. Since such moisture intrusion is confined to cavities, substantial demolition is necessary to resolve the damage. The restorers must therefore have some building skills.

When the intruding water spreads beyond a single room, it complicates water extraction and drying wet materials. If several rooms need attention, our SERVPRO teams bring several units of water extractors, air movers, and dehumidifiers to guarantee faster removal.

SERVPRO of Bristol tackles all challenges related to water damage, making it "Like it never even happened." You can reach us at (860) 582-3330.

Why Do You Need Help to Complete Water Cleanup at Your Bristol Business Premises?

11/26/2021 (Permalink)

Commercial water damage restoration is a job for SERVPRO. Our IICRC certified techs have the equipment for every size disaster.

SERVPRO Takes Cafe of Unexpected Challenges that Develop During Water Removal From Business Premises

After water leaks at your business premises, you may think the solution is simply drying the wet areas, but several challenges may arise, complicating the process. Extended closure, high restoration costs, and even injury are some of the unexpected issues you may encounter while trying to clean up your Bristol business premises.

Calling a professional to help with water cleanup at your Bristol business address helps deliver faster results and forestalls most of the problems you might encounter while working on your own. A professional like SERVPRO can deliver better outcomes since we provide highly trained crews to handle every task necessary to complete the cleanup.

The cleaning process involves processes such as:

  • Removing soils, stains, and odors
  • Tracing moisture migration
  • Relocating items

Moving items around to reach water or soiled areas may be challenging if there are several heavy and bulky items in your workplace. Since leaving the water that spreads beneath such items in place is not feasible, seeking a convenient way to move the items is the only option. Our SERVPRO technicians use lifting straps to ease the manipulation of appliances and heavy furniture.

Soiling varies greatly since the water might contain dissolved wastes, or the spilled water might dissolve materials in the affected areas causing deep soiling and staining. Some cleaning methods might also be too aggressive, especially when used on fabrics. Therefore, the cleaning process requires adequate balancing. SERVPRO has a wide array of cleaning equipment, so it is possible to use a distinct method for each cleaning situation. We pre-test surfaces to ensure the correct detergent is applied.

Some of the equipment that helps ease cleaning include:

  • Water extractors with heating capability
  • Rotary machines
  • Specialized upholstery cleaning equipment

SERVPRO of Bristol provides excellent water cleanup services ensuring faster business resumption and comfort for customers and staff. Call us at (860) 582-3330. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

How Much Damage Can One Expect in a Bristol Home After a Flood Damage Incident?

SERVPRO techs have the training and experience in all phases of storm damage mitigation that your house needs.

SERVPRO Deals With All Levels of Flood Restoration So Homeowners Have Less to Worry About

The uncertainty that follows a flood damage incident can be worse than even the financial implications of the loss. Coping is much easier when you know what you have to pay and what items of sentimental value you have to lose. Although there is no magic solution to identify all the damage at once, useful pointers can give you a general idea of what you are facing.

Calling professionals to assist you in resolving flood damage in your Bristol home has many benefits, including helping you understand the scope of the loss faster. Working with an experienced restoration team like SERVPRO that has handled flooding incidents for several years means they can rely on their experiences to identify the different sets of problems you face in your property faster, thus giving an overall verdict in good time.

The main factors that determine the outcome of a flooding incident include:

A variety of materials in your home, including carpets, pads, upholstery, insulation, and drywall, are porous. Such materials readily absorb the water that accumulates in your house during a flooding incident. They also collect residues of toxic chemicals and biohazards dissolved in the water. In most cases, the only solution when porous materials are involved is to replace them.

Appliances such as electronics are often destroyed by water exposure. Even when not exposed directly to water, the humidity in the air can cause rusting of electronic components. Such appliances require evaluation and restoration by a specialist. We can suggest a third party that specializes in this type of restoration.

In general, the cost of restoring a flooded home is determined by:

  • Time
  • Service
  • Materials

SERVPRO of Bristol can help you estimate faster the time and materials needed to fix flood damage at your property. Call us at (860) 582-3330. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

How Essential Is Estimation of Fire Damage in Burlington Homes?

11/6/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO IICRC certified technicians are trained and experienced in all phases of fire damage restoration. We are here to help.

SERVPRO Estimates the Level of Damage and the Likely Costs of Restoration

Once the fire at your Burlington home is put out, your main focus shifts to salvaging items and restoring the damaged areas; collecting various estimates are essential before embarking on the restoration process.

Since estimation takes some time, you may be tempted to avoid it when restoring fire damage at your Burlington home. However, when you understand the importance of estimates, any time spent doing them is worthy. Since SERVPRO tackles several fire restoration tasks simultaneously, it is possible to do the estimates without delaying other processes significantly.

A properly done estimate should help reveal:

  • The variety of resources needed to complete the restoration
  • Cost of cleaning, repairing or replacing items
  • The different types and extent of damages

The resources needed for restoration vary greatly, so it is easy to underestimate or overestimate what is required at your loss site, with dire consequences. In some loss situations, you might need to move out items, while in others, a supplementary power source is necessary for heating the building. A thorough evaluation of the loss helps reveal such needs and the costs involved.

You may think of the decision whether to repair or dispose of damaged items as based solely on the level of damage. However, factoring in the cost is also necessary. Our SERVPRO technicians help establish the costs it takes to restore various materials through cleaning or resurfacing. We let you know whether such cost differs significantly from replacement cost so that you can make an informed decision. For instance, replacing insulation is relatively low cost, so our technicians remove and replace the top layers of insulation from walls rather than wasting time cleaning them.

SERVPRO of Bristol can help you understand fire damage clearly by making it clear whether you are primarily dealing with residue deposits, material degradation from heat and flames, or a severe odor problem. Call us at (860) 582-3330. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster

Why Does Professional Fire Damage Restoration Produce Better Results in Bristol Homes?

10/30/2021 (Permalink)

Fire and soot damage restoration is no easy task. SERVPRO specialists are ready at a moment's notice for the service you need.

Professionals Like SERVPRO Breakdown the Restoration Into Unique Tasks for Better Implementation

Fire causes significant damage to properties within a short period. Your attempt to fix the damage may prove overwhelming or fail to produce satisfactory outcomes. Calling a professional to fix your Bristol home increases the chances of quality outcomes significantly.

The two main issues that can complicate fire damage restoration at your Bristol home are tackling everything simultaneously or trivializing some aspects of the job. When SERVPRO breaks down the process, it is easier to avoid both pitfalls.

The main stages that need full focus include:

  • Loss discovery
  • Approaching the job
  • Job management
  • Job completion

When working independently, such breakdown is rare because you might not consider some of the issues as significant. For instance, in terms of loss discovery at your property, you may focus on a single factor. However, SERVPRO restoration teams take it as an opportunity to learn as much as possible about the loss, including what caused the fire, which rooms are affected, among other things.

Having such information helps in preparation for the restoration. For instance, when major damage is concentrated in one room, we still expect residue deposits in the other rooms. Since soot is acidic, such residues can stain or corrode stone and metallic items. Therefore, our SERVPRO technicians prioritize the protection of such materials when we arrive at your property. Pre-cleaning them and applying a protective oil film are two simple ways to protect them.

The approach that is taken when fixing damages at the loss site also affects the outcomes. SERVPRO starts by reviewing the entire loss site, establishing a staging area for equipment, and doing pack-outs where necessary. Such preparation paves the way for faster and effective restoration. Handling job management and completion professionally also helps.

SERVPRO of Bristol has the resources you need to tackle fire damage restoration competently. Call us at (860) 582-3330. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

What It Takes to Manage Water Removal From Bristol Homes Successfully

10/18/2021 (Permalink)

Stagnant water from water damage can be a health risk. SERVPRO water damage specialists are here to help with any size disaster you may have.

SERVPRO Handles Extraction, Storage, and Transfer of Water From Inundated Areas of Your Home

When someone mentions water removal, you may visualize a process involving wiping off stagnant water from floors or other surfaces. However, once water spills, it can exist in different states apart from accumulating on surfaces, so removal requires a comprehensive approach to restore preloss conditions at your Bristol home.

Apart from taking care of extraction during water removal from your Bristol home, it would be best if you also had a sound plan for managing humidity and drying the water absorbed by various materials. Semi-porous materials such as solid wood present the main challenge for the restoration process since it takes longer for them to release the trapped water. SERVPRO can help you manage the removal better by providing advanced technical skills and state-of-the-art equipment.

Some of the most useful resources when extracting water from a property include:

  • Availability of powerful equipment
  • Expertise to perform controlled demolitions
  • Availability of water storage

The power of water removal equipment is gauged in many ways, including the extraction speed and vacuum lift capacity. The mode of power for such equipment also matters since electricity may be off after water intrusion. SERVPRO believes in matching the equipment to the task. Therefore, we have a wide array of extraction equipment, including portable, submersible, and truck-mounted extractors.

When removing water, it might not be possible to dispose of it immediately. For instance, in case of leaks in sections of the house far from a bathroom, the extracted water needs to be collected and transferred to the disposal point. In other cases, the water may contain harmful substances, and therefore disposing it into the sewer system may not be appropriate. SERVPRO uses portable extractors with storage tanks ranging from 5 gallons to 12 gallons. In case of high water volumes, we use large wheeled trash cans as water receptacles.

SERVPRO of Bristol takes care of all issues that arise during water removal addressing water intrusion, "Like it never even happened." Call us at (860) 582-3330.

The drive kicks off at 8 am and runs until 1 pm. For appointments, they can be booked online at redcrossblood.org and use Sponsor Code: Burlington, CT.

The blood drive is a community event to honor Colin McFadden, 26. He served as a Burlington volunteer firefighter and was a member of the Bristol CERT Team. The team at SERVPRO of Bristol is proud to support the local area with restoration services and elevating awareness for important events that benefit community members, such as this drive to celebrate the life of Colin McFadden with the gift of life through blood donations.

Long-term Exposure to Flood Damage in your Burlington Home Can Lead to Severe Losses.

While the primary concern for most homeowners dealing with flooding is reducing the water level, it is equally important to return the property and its materials to their natural dry state. Organic materials that are commonly found in a building assembly take on water. This water absorption can cause problems for the home's structure. These problems may manifest through the warping of materials like floorboards which can also cup or buckle as they take on increasing amounts of moisture. Drywall materials can disintegrate once the moisture content level gets too high. It is essential to respond to water intrusion quickly to reduce the chances of water absorption for materials. We can help with:

  • Flood damage
  • Water remediation
  • Water cleanup

One of the most dangerous aspects of flood damage in your Burlington home is water absorption. Unlike other forms of damage, absorption can lead to structural insecurity. Materials typically found in a home environment, such as hardwood or lumber, have a natural moisture content of around 12%. Once the moisture content rises above this natural level, the material must expand to contain the additional moisture. Expansion can put further pressure on the joints of the home and make the building unsafe for inhabitants. SERVPRO has a tried and tested formula for dealing with hardwoods or lumber and has demonstrable experience returning these materials to a preloss condition.

  • Measuring the moisture content of a material is possible by either probing the material or using a moisture sensor directly on the surface.
  • Reducing moisture content is possible by applying hot air at high pressure directly onto the material's surface.
  • Silica-based dehumidifiers can reduce the indoor climate to below 40 GPP which draws moisture from hardwood materials.

To return your home to its preloss condition, contact SERVPRO of Bristol for flood damage restoration at (860) 582-3330.

Mold remediation services by SERVPRO are second to none. Call now for the help you need.

Mold Remediation Can Prevent Mold Returning to your Bristol Home. SERVPRO Remediation Technicians are a Phone Call Away

Microbial growth occurs in environments that provide the correct temperature, moisture levels, and food supply. It is normal then for a mold remediation team to focus on environmental controls when removing a mold infestation. Controlling the indoor environment is a fine science that is called Psychrometry. We use psychrometric measuring equipment and drying equipment to establish the ideal conditions for mold remediation. Monitoring psychrometric conditions allow SERVPRO technicians to keep track of the indoor atmosphere in real-time and ensure that the remediation project is as efficient as possible. We can help residents with:

  • Mold remediation
  • Mold removal
  • Dehumidification of the home

Using a mold remediation professional in your Bristol home ensures that the property can return to a sanitary condition and address any concerns you may have around indoor air quality. Since molds release microscopic spores into the air, these can sometimes be ingested and have health effects. SERVPRO technicians use state-of-the-art remediation equipment to return your indoor air quality. We can also provide the necessary humidity controls to address the source of a mold problem and ensure that it does not come back. We promise to arrive on-site within just four hours of receiving your notification of loss.

  • Hygrometers and manometers can measure the conditions of an indoor environment and test for humidity and microscopic particles, respectively.
  • Using refrigerant dehumidifiers, technicians can remove moisture from the air and remove the essential condition for mold reproduction.
  • Air filtration devices can remove particles as small as 0.3 microns- below microscopic sizes- from an indoor environment.

To quickly return your home to its normal condition, contact SERVPRO of Bristol for mold remediation at (860) 582-3330.

How Does Burlington Commercial Fire Damage Restoration Address Burnt Proteins?

9/2/2021 (Permalink)

Fire and smoke damage to your commercial building is a job for SERVPRO. Our IICRC certified technicians are ready at a moment's notice.

SERVPRO Fire Damage Restoration Mitigates Malodors in Burlington Businesses

In 2019 alone, reported non-residential structural fires caused over $4.3 billion in damages, according to a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) survey of US fire departments. After adjusting for inflation, the property loss per structure fire from 1977 to 2018 increased a whopping 43%. Fire damage restoration needs have also increased due to an uptick in fires over time.

SERVPRO fire damage restoration professionals serve Burlington property owners with services performed quickly and to code, 24/7. Highly-trained techs, staff, and franchise owners undergo thorough education to stay current on restoration industry best practices and better aid community members in need.

Commercial Protein Fire Damage Cleanup and Odor Control Methods

Cooking fires are common in commercial kitchens, many of which occur while cooking proteins. Cleaning up smoke and soot is one issue. Still, burnt proteins leave behind great, odorous residues that require very specific cleanup measures to mitigate fully.

  • SERVPRO technicians treat protein residues with enzyme digesters, which eliminate proteins and convert them into water-soluble byproducts
  • Technicians clean these byproducts with EPA-registered antimicrobial solutions
  • Further odor control after a protein fire in a commercial kitchen includes abrasion cleaning on heavily charred surfaces with soda ash, time-release odor removal pellets, and thermal fogging with commercial-grade, solvent-based deodorizers

If food items are affected by fire, SERVPRO can dispose of these items after they are inventoried for a proof of loss claim and a Disposal of Belongings Release is signed.

SERVPRO of Bristol leaves businesses looking “Like it never even happened,” after a disaster. Call (860) 582-3330 to begin the restoration process.

Can Bristol Homeowners Dry Flood Damage Successfully?

8/23/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO techs have all the training and experience needed for any size storm damage restoration needed for your home.

Bristol Properties Can Be Restored After Flood Damage by SERVPRO Technicians

Even small amounts of flood damage can create costly damages. An inch of water alone can cause as much as $21,000 in structural damage, even after standing water has receded. Bristol property owners may not have the equipment necessary to remove the damage themselves, but they can contact a firm that does.

SERVPRO renders flood damage cleanup for Bristol properties that covers everything from debris removal and sanitation to drying and rebuilding services. This firm is available 24/7 to eliminate the effects of flooding with EPA-registered antimicrobial solutions and commercial-grade personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep property occupants safe.

SERVPRO Flood Damage Drying Salvages Walls and Floors

Whether flooding comes in from a back door in the kitchen or a ground flood in the basement, Bristol SERVPRO techs rely on two categories of drying equipment after extraction: air movers and dehumidifiers.

  • Axial and centrifugal air movers push moisture off of surfaces and into the air as water vapor, which allows low-grain refrigerant (LGR) and desiccant dehumidifiers to replace this humidity with warm, dry air
  • Air movers have snout attachments that facilitate pushing air into wall cavities, cabinetry, and other typically hard-to-reach areas
  • Technicians carefully calibrate air movers to target flood damage and avoid overwhelming dehumidification units
  • LGR dehumidifiers lower relative humidity in a structure to approximately 40 grains per pound and can be deployed even when access to electrical power is limited

SERVPRO of Bristol can be reached by phone at (860) 582-3330 to render mitigation services that keep homes feeling and looking “Like it never even happened.”

How Burlington Homeowners Fix Wet Basements with Water Restoration

8/16/2021 (Permalink)

Water damage restorations by SERVPRO are top-notch. We use EPA-registered biocides for all jobs.

SERVPRO Technicians’ Water Restoration Techniques Preserve Damaged Burlington Basements

Burlington homeowners have a bevy of options for water damage prevention that include smart landscaping and drainage, water-resistant sealants, and more. However, these efforts may not always be sufficient for preventing small, long-lasting pipe leaks that allow mold and moisture to eat away at basement sheetrock, insulation, and wall supports.

Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) certified SERVPRO technicians provide water restoration that revitalizes Burlington homes after basement water damage occurs. SERVPRO training prepares technicians, staff, and franchise owners with extensive knowledge of emergency water damage mitigation and related cleanup processes.

Burlington SERVPRO Basement Water Restoration Restores Damaged Walls

SERVPRO basement cleanup is a comprehensive process that includes such services as:

  • Sanitizing surfaces with EPA-registered biocides, which can be applied manually, with extractors, or fogged
  • Demolishing unsalvageable water-damaged or mold-affected sheetrock and insulation. Nonporous insulation, like fiberglass, can often be restored and re-implemented after water damage
  • Drying wet wall cavities after demolition with centrifugal air movers and industrial-grade low-grain refrigerant or desiccant dehumidifiers
  • Installing, repairing, and repainting basement sheetrock after remediation to return the space to a pre-disaster state
  • Cleaning and sealing services to remove and prevent concrete efflorescence on basement floors

After cleanup, SERVPRO Odor Control Technicians can treat basement water damage odors with water- or solvent-based deodorizers that can be deployed with ultra-low volume foggers. Duct cleaning and sanitation can also address the spread of moisture odors.

SERVPRO of Bristol can be reached at (860) 582-3330 to provide mitigation that makes basements feel “Like it never even happened.”

When to Use Fire Damage Restoration Services for an Attic in Burlington?

8/5/2021 (Permalink)

Smoke and fire damage in your attic is no DIY project. SERVPRO IICRC certified technicians are trained and experienced in all phases of fire repairs.

SERVPRO Recommend Initiating Fire Damage Restoration as Quickly as Possible Using a Local Burlington Provider

Fires, and the smoke they produce, naturally travel upwards, seeking out cooler air pockets as they move through a property. In severe fires, this process can often cause excessive damage to attic spaces and roofing. In some situations, there may be physical signs of damage to the roof's framework and its trusses. SERVPRO IICRC certified technicians are qualified to assist with:

  • Fire damage restoration
  • Fire and smoke damage
  • Fire damaged homes

Appropriate fire damage restoration services in Burlington can help to restore your home to its preloss condition. While attic spaces can be particularly tricky to fix, due to space restrictions limiting conventional restoration equipment, it is possible with a professional service. We can often adapt existing equipment to allow its usage in smaller spaces, for example, ducting the attic and applying an air filtration device. Technicians can remove charred wood from trusses and roof frameworks using powerful sand-blasting equipment. We can also:

  • Remove and replace insulation that has been adversely affected by exposure to smoke, temperature, and odor.
  • Apply deodorant solutions directly onto lumber wood frames to reduce the likelihood of odor particles dissipating into the home environment.
  • Carry out repairs of fire damages to the roofing structure under the guidance of an experienced crew chief.

Clearing Water from Flooded Bristol Basements

7/21/2021 (Permalink)

Floodwaters in your basement can be very dangerous. Call SERVPRO for fast and immediate storm damage repairs.

With multiple extraction tools, we can mitigate flood loss in Bristol residences.

After floodwater enters a home, there is a finite timeline to mitigate before irreparable damage occurs. As trusted flood restoration professionals, we have a fast response when every minute counts.

Fast Extraction Solutions for Natural Flooding

In finished or unfinished spaces alike, flood damage to Bristol basements requires immediate extraction assistance. Our skilled SERVPRO professionals cannot identify the extent of the damage and the presence of secondary effects like mold without first removing pooled water. Because this lower level of the property sits under the grade of the ground outside, when penetration points exist, it could result in several inches or feet of standing water.

Clearing Surface Water Threats from Concrete Floors

As one of the low-porosity materials commonly used for flooring in unfinished basements, water can pool along the surface without considerable concerns about endangering saturation. This concrete material encountered in flooded Bristol properties makes for faster extraction and water removal, even when the size and magnitude of the flood damage do not constitute larger removal units like truck-mounted extractors. Some of the tools for the remaining surface water include:

  • Squeegee wands
  • Mops
  • Towels
  • Evaporative drying tools

Flooding is an unexpected and destructive force against area homes and businesses. Our SERVPRO of Bristol storm response team can help clean up the mess and return you to the property as soon as possible. Give us a call today at (860) 582-3330.

How Our Crew Restores Your Burlington Home To Pre-Fire Damage Condition

SERVPRO understands how important it is to get your home back in order after a fire. Call us at (860) 582-3330, right away.

Advanced Mitigation Methods For Properties With Fire Damage

Property is not just bricks or mortar but a collection of memories and possessions; often, put together over several years or even decades. That is why fire damage can be so upsetting for homeowners. Not only is there the stress of making sure everyone is safe but also the prospect of discarding the things that made it a home, not just a house. We are a leading restoration provider that works with a restore-over-replace mentality that can get your home back to preloss condition, “Like it never even happened.”

Our duty in helping homeowners overcome fire damage in Burlington is to bridge the gap between firefighting services and getting your home back to its best. As restoration technicians, we enter the property, check for safety hazards, remove charred materials or debris, deodorize, and clean. In significant fires, we can prepare a job site for third-party contractors to enter safely while also carrying out crucial mitigation tasks.

Water & Fire Damage Restorations

A conventional method of firefighting procedure is to douse flames with water. Unfortunately, porous surfaces can absorb that moisture and set residual smokes or soots into the fabric. SERVPRO responds quickly to these issues by drying the affected area properly and applying foam cleaning methods to prevent soiling to upholstery or furniture from becoming permanent.

Mitigation against water or soiling is time-sensitive, so it is essential to use professional services to restore your property from smoke or soot damages. Possessions are often salvageable with the proper care. SERVPRO can use immersion cleaning for dense materials. Immersion cleaning methods help restore valuable metals by using ultrasonic technology. Equally, Esporta washing machines can remove up to 90% of soft contents.

SERVPRO can take personal items, including artworks, photos, ornaments, or fabrics, to an external cleaning facility. Your technician can create an inventory of items and damages sustained to be passed on to your insurance adjuster or third party to guarantee you only deal with one company throughout service. Get your home back after property damages; contact SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 today.

Water Damage Can Be Insidious In Onset In Your Bristol Home

6/25/2021 (Permalink)

You need expert assistance for any level of water damage in your Bristol home. Call SERVPRO today for help.

Unexpected Water Damage Problems in Bristol Solved by SERVPRO

Water troubles can be brewing in your Bristol house unnoticed. Small leaks under a sink, behind a wall, or around the sides of a poorly caulked tub eventually become more significant issues. When a homeowner realizes that water has soaked into fixtures and structural components, considerable harm can need attention. Our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC) trained technicians are ready to address any water damage in your home fast.

When we arrive at your water damaged Bristol residence, our experienced crew assesses the damages. Because pipes and drains hide within building cavities behind walls and under floors, we employ sensitive moisture measuring and thermal imaging devices to map out the perimeters of the saturated building materials. We want to stop the migration of water to even more unaffected spaces and dry out the wet areas.

Water Removal Services

If we discover pooled water under cabinets or between walls, pumps, and extractors from our fully-stocked SERVPRO service vehicles, remove it. We disassemble kickboards beneath fixtures and consider controlled demolition of the lower sections of walls to access the water. Systematic reuse of detection devices ensures we make progress and avoid missing damaged areas.

Water can make its way through layers of hardwood and even ceramic tile if the grout is missing or cracked. SERVPRO uses negative air pressure equipment to suction water from several levels of flooring. We attach floor mats to the surface, connect hoses to the mats, and pull the water out with extractors for power.

Once standing water exits your home, SERVPRO focuses on techniques mastered by team members certified by the IICRC for Applied Structural Drying (ASD). Creating a restorative drying environment requires leveraging the scientific principle that wet moves to dry. We position air movers and heaters to reduce your home’s interior humidity, facilitating the movement of absorbed moisture out of porous building materials into the drier air. Our commercial-grade dehumidifiers then absorb or condense the water vapor created for permanent removal.

SERVPRO of Bristol is ready for your water damage needs, invested in the training and the equipment for the job. Call us at  (860) 582-3330 when you suspect unseen water damage.

Our SERVPRO Team in Bristol Handles Smoke and Fire Damaged Properties

Eliminating smoke and fire residues can be a highly technical process that requires years of experience, purpose-made tools, and careful monitoring of environmental conditions. This article looks at some of SERVPRO’s best equipment for the job.

Perhaps the most important equipment we use when handling fire and smoke damage in Bristol is our personal protective equipment (PPE). Hand and eye protection are a must throughout most stages of the restoration process, with some steps even requiring industrial respirators. SERVPRO technicians know how to stay safe on the job, so always take their advice.

Removing smoke particles can be difficult work. One tool that we use to eliminate them is the air scrubber. This machine draws in copious volumes of air, captures smoke particles in a HEPA filter, and uses adsorption techniques to remove tiny particles that can get through the filter. These devices may be used alongside Vaportek systems, which use advanced membranes and oils to eliminate and neutralize odor molecules in the air. SERVPRO technicians may use these devices for:

  • House Fire Clean Up
  • Smoke Damage from Tobacco
  • Smoke remediation in the attic

Basement floods are heavy in contaminant waters. SERVPRO has IICRC certified techs for the dirty job.

Extraction and Drying Equipment for a Flooded Bristol Basement

Basements are a common element in many homes, but they are also a frequent location for flood damage. While you might not have the expertise or equipment to manage effects from a disaster like this, extraction and drying are vital components to begin the process of returning your property to preloss condition. Our professionals can arrive quickly with the full measure of our industry-leading equipment designed to make restoration more efficient by protecting your property and reducing damage.

We have IICRC-certified restoration specialists that can arrive quickly to begin flood removal efforts in your Bristol home. Our SERVPRO technicians have extensive training and education to obtain their certifications for water restoration, disaster relief, and mitigation tactics. We encourage each member of our experienced team to pursue educational opportunities to further their knowledge in the industry and provide customers with exemplary service that exceeds their expectations.

For the high-caliber employees that we dispatch to your home, we equip them with high-powered tools and machines to make mitigation and restoration phases of recovery faster and more cost-effective. With a flooded basement, many residents often have to face several inches of standing water. Our SERVPRO team arrives with several levels of extraction equipment, from our portable electric sump pumps and wet-vacs to high-volume extraction equipment like our trash pumps and extractor truck mounts.

The objective is to remove all excess water as promptly as possible to understand the severity of the damage facing the rest of the basement and begin water damage mitigation. With moisture detection equipment, we can find the ideal location to set up air movers and dehumidification units. Together, these two machines can work to force moisture into the air and collect that vapor into a tray for removal from the premises. Drying concrete is a slow and exacting process to ensure that drying goals are met.

Overcoming the obstacles of a flooded basement is nothing that a homeowner should face on their own. With our advanced equipment and experienced professionals, you can count on SERVPRO of Bristol to make this damage “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (860) 582-3330.

How SERVPRO Will Restore Your Bristol Home After Water Damage

5/26/2021 (Permalink)

Broken pipes and plumbing failures are a job for SERVPRO. Water mitigation services are one of our specialties.

SERVPRO - Water Cleanup Procedures For Bristol Residents

With its location in the middle of our state, Bristol enjoys the benefits of being near the coast without having to suffer through the storms. Despite its ideal location, that does not mean residents do not deal with water intrusions from broken pipes and other plumbing failures.

When dealing with an inside water problem like a broken, shut-off water heater valve, water cleanup in a Bristol home can be more straightforward. SERVPRO response teams do not have to deal with soil and other contaminants in water that enters through a flood.

That does not eliminate cleanup, though. Depending on which appliance failed, there can still be rust, food scraps, or even human waste if the problem was a backed-up toilet or failing septic tank. When that happens, the water is contaminated or ‘black’ and a health threat. To eliminate the problem, our personnel use shampoos and other cleaners containing antibacterial and anti-microbial chemicals.

If the water damage was not from one of these two sources, then it is considered ‘clean.’ This water makes up most of our service calls for residential water intrusions. After quickly removing any standing water, SERVPRO technicians use shampoo machines and mild cleaning agents to clean any carpets that absorbed the water. The cleaner eliminates the threat of active mold and helps lift out anything trapped in the carpet.

After cleaning, team members roll up the carpet to remove the pad underneath. Pads disintegrate quickly after absorbing any liquid, so water cleanup and replacement are much more cost-effective than attempting to dry them. Most insurance companies also support this option.

With the pad removed, technicians unroll the carpet for drying. They lift it at opposite sides and use an exhaust fan to draw out moisture and damp air at one end while installing an air mover to replace it with warm, dry air. By carefully adjusting the temperature and speed of the airflow, they can quickly finish without causing delamination or separation of the carpet layers.

At SERVPRO of Bristol, we understand that proper cleanup involves much more than renting a shampoo machine and spending your weekend walking on butcher paper after you finish. Every home deserves a professional response to any water intrusion, no matter the size or its origin. Call us at (860) 582-3330 today to get started restoring your home. We are here for you.

Water Removal from Bristol Homes

3/22/2021 (Permalink)

Water damage done to floors is a job for SERVPRO. Their techs are IICRC certified for the water restoration service needed.

How does equilibrium moisture content affect water removal in Bristol homes?

Equilibrium moisture content is a condition where a material's moisture content has stabilized in relation to the surrounding air in your home or business. Why is this important, and how is equilibrium moisture content established?

SERVPRO water removal experts in Bristol study this concept and many others to ensure your home's contents and structure are returned to normal moisture levels after water damage. Carpets and underpads may be soaked with water, and the subfloor may also have absorbed moisture. Removing water and moisture is essential to avoid issues later, such as mold and weaknesses in the subfloor structure.

Our teams establish and measure the moisture content of the surrounding air and materials affected by water damage. The following processes accomplish water and moisture removal:

Once our measurements indicate materials have reached equilibrium with the surrounding air, they have returned to their normal moisture levels.

3/16/2021 (Permalink)

Lingering odors from a fire is no easy task. SERVPRO has the technicians and equipment for the fire restoration service needed for your home.

What is the best approach to remove odors in fire damage repairs in Burlington?

Burlington is a scenic hill town, incorporated in 1806 with a population of approximately 10,000 people. The town is about 20 miles west of Hartford. Half of the townlands are owned by three public water supply firms and the state of Connecticut. The town is home to States Fish Hatchery, the Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area, and the Nepaug Reservoir.

Residents and visitors enjoy the following activities in and around the town of Burlington:

  • Burlington Golf Center
  • Nassahegon State Forest
  • Session Woods Wildlife Management Area
  • Farmington River Trail
  • Burlington State Fish Hatchery
  • Lamothe’s Sugar House
  • Hogan’s Cider Mill
  • Crown & Hammer Restaurant & Pub
  • Lasalle Market
  • George’s Pizza & Restaurant

Burlington Golf Center

The original nine holes were completed in 1923, followed a year later with an additional nine holes and a clubhouse. The golf club features a golf shop, practice facility, enclosed driving range, practice area, and teaching facility. Guests can also rely on an electronic storm identification device for early warning about approaching storm fronts.

Nassahegon State Forest

Covering 1,277 acres in the town of Burlington, the forest also includes the Burlington Trout Hatchery. Portions of the Blue-Blazed Trail systems also pass through the park. The system has over 825 miles in total and passes through 96 towns as it crosses through the state.

Session Woods Wildlife Management Area

The Session Woods Wildlife Management Area covers 771 acres and focuses on education, preservation, and conservation of the natural environment and local wildlife. There are educational programs, demonstrations as well as workshops available. There are self-guided hiking trails, which also connect to the Blue-Blazed Tunxis trail. The WMA is also next to the Nassahegon State Forest.

Farmington River Trail

The Farmington River Trailhead is located in nearby Canton and runs for 10 miles to nearby Farmington. The trail follows the river and is used for hiking, walking, running, and cycling. All dogs must be leashed while on the trail. Traffic on the course is considered moderate.

Burlington State Fish Hatchery

The fish hatchery got its start in 1923, making use of artesian wells and nearby streams. The hatchery produces four types of fish including, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, brown trout, and brook trout. Group tours and individuals can visit the hatchery to learn more about the fish raised in the hatchery, the process, and the distribution of fish throughout Connecticut.

Deodorization of Contents and Structure after Fire Damage in Burlington

Lingering odors after a fire can sometimes be difficult to remove. The fire may have been contained in one room. However, the smoke flowed throughout the home, distributed by the forced air system. Even the air ducts may carry some odor from the fire.

SERVPRO understands how challenging it can be to remove all odors after the fire-damaged materials have been removed in Burlington homes. After all of the damaged materials are removed, we follow the smoke flow through the structure to remove odors. Our odor removal process includes:

  • Cleaning of all surfaces
  • Utilize deodorizing smoke or fog to follow the path of odors through the structure
  • Seal all porous surfaces and duct surfaces in air handling systems.

How Bristol became known as "Mum City"

The annual Chrysanthemum Festival in Bristol can surely be counted among our community's most notable and unique aspects. New and young residents are often unaware of why this event happens here and how long it has gone on. The story of why Bristol is called "Mum City" stretches back over a century.

In 1920, a duo of local businessmen founded the Bristol Nurseries, which would soon become a significant supplier of ornamental plants to corporate developments and wealthy manors from New York to Boston. The nursery found that chrysanthemum flowers, which were always in high demand, grew readily under local conditions. In 1948, an employee bought out the company, and it began to focus solely on the chrysanthemum.

Chrysanthemum Festival

Each year, the nursery attempted to introduce new varieties of the flower and had a spectacular display of thousands of blooms that many locals held dear. By the 1960s, the flowers had so enraptured the people that city planners made official the Chrysanthemum Festival. When the nursery ceased many of its operations a few decades later, the Festival had long since become self-sustaining and an important part of local culture.

Today, the Festival continues, even as city officials try to push a new image and direction for our culture. Perhaps the Mums really are here to stay.

Did you know? Lake Compounce is the oldest amusement park in the country

Most of us who grew up in Bristol remember summers full of roller coaster rides, water park cool-offs, and overpriced junk food. All of this and more has existed at Lake Compounce for longer than anyone can remember: the place seems like it has been there for longer than the town itself.

In fact, Lake Compounce holds the distinction of being the oldest amusement park in America that still operates today. The first "attraction" of the "park" was in 1846 when landowner Gad Norton conducted a large test of experimental explosives on his property. People came from all over to witness the experiment. Soon, acts from across New England would host more shows here, and Norton began to set up more permanent attractions such as watercraft events.

By the 20th century, many rides had been installed at Lake Compounce that were cutting-edge for their day. At one point, the park even hosted a large casino. As time went on, new owners and managers continued to build upon the pieces left in place before them, and Lake Compounce forever became a gem of the region.

Enjoy A Relaxed Pace of Life in Burlington

12/14/2020 (Permalink)

Burlington has so much to see and do.Look for us on the trails!

Burlington Is Perfect for A Relaxing Rural Break

Burlington is a real gem. This charming little town is easy on the eyes and the perfect place for a lovely rural getaway. With a population of just 9,665, Burlington has a cozy small-town vibe and is easy to explore.

Burlington was originally part of the Farmington plantation. However, in 1785 it separated from the farm and became part of the nearby town of Bristol. Then in 1806, Burlington split off from Bristol and became a town in its own right.

Nowadays, visitors to Burlington love the slower pace of life and easy access to miles of beautiful nature trails.

Get Close to Nature in Burlington

Burlington's rural location at the foot of the Berkshires and right beside the Farmington River make it the perfect location to get out and explore nature. Some unmissable natural beauty spots include:

  • Nepaug River runs down to join the Farmington River and is also the Nepaug Dam and Reservoir location, which contains some stunning views. Adventure lovers can enjoy whitewater rafting on the river. The route starts a tenth of a mile from the river, on Dings Road.
  • Burlington Fish Hatchery makes a beautiful day excursion for all the family. There is much to see at any time of year, but if you go just before the large specimens are released into the river, you will see plenty of large trout and salmon. You can see young fish at other times of the year and even visit the indoor enclosures where the fish are raised. There is a picnic table but not many other amenities, so be sure to pack a lunch.
  • Sessions Wood Wildlife Management Area is the place to stop for education about conservation. The area provides habitats for local wildlife and educates visitors. There is an education center, self-guided interpretive trails, and a backyard wildlife area so kids can learn how to see nature in their backyard. You can also enjoy relaxing walks in the woods.

Have A Wild Forest Adventure with State Park Letterboxing

Letterboxing is a fun activity for all the family. But what exactly is letterboxing, and how do you get started?

Letterboxing is part of the history of Connecticut's majestic State Forests. There are 32 of these forests throughout the state. Some forests are over a hundred years old, while others are less than a decade old. The woods include a wide range of habitats, from managed wildlife areas to soaring hardwood groves. No matter where your location in Connecticut, you are never far from a State Forest.

Letterboxing is a kind of treasure hunt, where you look for small, sealed boxes hidden away. Each box contains a logbook and a unique rubber stamp. You follow a set of clues to find the letterbox. When you find it, you use the stamp to mark your logbook (which you bring with you.) You also use your own logo (also brought with you) to stamp the letterbox record. You then put the letterbox with its seal and logbook back where you found it or somewhere nearby. Remember to hide it well!

To get started with letterboxing, you need three things:

  • A personal logbook so you can collect stamps from all the letterboxes you find.
  • A unique stamp (you can make or buy these) to stamp the on-site logbook when you find a letterbox.
  • A set of hints to lead you to the letterbox. You can print these off online.

Connecticut's Division of Forestry placed the first letterboxes in 2003 to celebrate the State Forest System's Centennial. The letterboxes were a way to get people into the forests to explore and find a connection with the state's wild areas. The scheme was so popular that the Division of Forestry placed a second set of letterboxes in 2005.

Nassahegon State Forest is Burlington's closest letterboxing site. While you are in the forest, you can also enjoy hiking, hunting, and biking. If you decide to try letterboxing for yourself, remember to leave the areas as good or better than you found them and re-wrap the logbook in its plastic bag within the box as not to become wet. Shut the container tightly and head off to find your next treasure! Visit Connecticut's official State website to download some letterboxing clues.

Enjoy Some Fresh Cuisine After Your Forest Adventures

When you are finished exploring the forests and fisheries of Burlington, the town has plenty of restaurants to tempt you.

  • Max Pizza 3 is an odd name for a restaurant – but do not let that fool you! This restaurant is one of Burlington's most famous pizza places, offering fresh-made pizza and delicious sides. Everything is made to order, and there is a small sitting area where you can wait for your food.
  • Finnegans Tavern is not just for Irish food. Enjoy a home-cooked and hearty meal in relaxed surroundings. The menu has a wide variety of offerings, including traditional Irish food, burgers, and lobster.
  • Lemongrass Asian Grill offers authentic Asian food prepared under the watchful eye of its Indonesian owner. Locals love the wide variety, and the hot and sour soup is a particular favorite.

Call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 for Rapid Response Cleanup & Restoration

Bristol, Connecticut, is a city 60,000 strong and backed by centuries of rich New England culture and tradition. Also known as Mum Town due to its chrysanthemum production, Bristol was known initially as New Cambridge before its incorporation in 1785. The city’s seal features clock hands because of its long history and contributions to the clock-making industry.

The art of clock-making became so crucial to the town’s economy that by the late 19th century, most citizens were involved in Bristol clock production in some fashion. Visitors can find out more about this crucial part of the area’s history firsthand at the acclaimed American Clock & Watch Museum on Maple Street.

Today, prominent businesses in Bristol include ESPN, Amazon, Stop & Shop, and Faneuil, Inc. The tallest elevator test tower in the country is also located in Bristol, courtesy of the Otis Elevator Company.

An Overview of Clock-Making in Bristol

According to English traveler G.W. Feathersborough in 1840, “…[In] Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri… in every dell of Arkansas and in every cabin where there was not a chair to sit on there was sure to be a Connecticut clock.” Not only were timepieces an essential part of the Bristol economy, but they were also a staple in homes across America.

The invention of the Connecticut-style mechanical clock started first with Galileo’s discovery of the pendulum in the 1600s, followed by Dutch clockmaker Christian Huygens incorporating pendulums into his clocks to enhance their accuracy. In Connecticut specifically, clock production boomed under Thomas Harland and, subsequently, Daniel Burnap in the 18th century and was further innovated by one of Burnap’s apprentices, Eli Terry.

Terry fine-tuned the process needed to create clocks with wooden gears instead of brass and standardizing sizes so that parts were more easily interchangeable. This process not only expedited the clock-making process but also made production much more cost-effective. In the early 19th century, Edward and Levi Porter partnered with Terry to craft 4,000 tall wooden-gear clocks in just three years, which was well beyond their competitors’ production capacity at the time.

Within decades of the wooden-movement production increase, sheet brass manufacture and punching would allow traditionally more expensive clocks to catch up with their competitors. In 1850 alone, Connecticut clockmakers produced a combined half-million clocks, with Bristol leading the industry. To this day, central Connecticut is home to a plethora of small spring factories.

Today’s clock and watch-making industries are dominated by digital timepieces, highly accurate atomic clocks, and quartz crystal movements instead of brass or wood.

The Country’s Oldest Amusement Park is Bristol’s Own Lake Compounce

Lake Compounce on Enterprise Drive is the longest-running amusement park in the United States today. The park, founded in 1846, spans across an astounding 332 acres and includes a water park and beach with the admission price. The name itself comes from the name of the Tunxis chieftain John Compound. Under Compound’s leadership, a deed to the land was given to Massachusetts settlers in Connecticut in 1684.

Over 160 years later, in 1846, the Lake Compounce park was opened by Gad Norton for picnics and other community events. The catalyst was a proposal by scientist Samuel Botsford to conduct electricity experiments, which attracted attention as a novelty for Bristol locals. While the final experiment conducted on the property failed, Norton ultimately decided to turn the property into a picnic park for the public to enjoy.

New attractions were quickly added to the scenic park in its first five years of operation, including a bowling alley, billiard tables, and a manually-operated revolving swing ride. Southern-style summer barbecues started at Lake Compounce and quickly became a local tradition for families in the area.

Among Lake Compounce’s current attractions, visitors can find:

  • Roller coasters and thrill rides like the award-winning Boulder Dash and the Phobia Phear Coaster
  • Water rides like Venus Vortex and Mammoth Falls in the state’s largest water park, Crocodile Cove
  • Theme park classic rides like bumper cars, carousels, open-air trolleys, and Ferris wheels

How Can SERVPRO Teams Extract Floodwaters from Bristol Homes?

Emergency-response crews from SERVPRO are ready to begin flood damage mitigation for Bristol homes to prevent further damage to the property and return it to a safe and preloss state once more. Flood damage is of particular concern because Bristol sees an average of 55 inches of rain per year, much more significant than the US average of 38 inches.

Flooding necessitates additional precautions during the extraction and sanitation process. Technicians wear personal protection equipment (PPE) while removing sewage, pests, chemical runoff, mold, and debris from your property. This cleanup is performed before structural drying occurs to prevent the spread of contaminants through your vents.

SERVPRO technicians deploy an array of extraction tools to thoroughly remove water from various surfaces and structures, such as:

  • Portable and truck-mounted extraction units
  • Extraction wands, designed to pull up water from hard-to-reach nooks and crannies
  • Draining water from inside wall or ceiling cavities with small holes

While carpet and pad are salvageable in many water damage cases, carpeting is considered a loss in a flood damage situation because of the risk of sewage and contaminants. The exposure to large volumes of water also makes delamination of adhesives much more likely during a flood. Other porous materials, such as sheetrock and cellulose insulation, are more cost-effective to repair than replace.

Your local SERVPRO renders a multitude of rebuilding services after mitigation, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Hardwood flooring repair
  • HVAC cleanup and repair services
  • Electrical and plumbing repairs

SERVPRO of Bristol can ensure that your disaster-affected property looks “Like it never even happened.” Call (860) 582-3330 for fast-acting disaster cleanup and restoration.

How Does A Professional Determine the Products to Use When Cleaning Flooded Houses?

10/20/2020 (Permalink)

After your home suffers flood damage, you need a team of professionals to assist you with cleanup. Call SERVPRO right away! We are always available.

The Chemical Composition and Types of Materials Affected by Flood Damage in Bristol Homes are the Main Guidelines SERVPRO Considers.

A flooded home in Bristol, requires various resources to restore the areas damaged by the intruding water to their preloss state. The use of chemical agents is one crucial process because it helps remove soiling, contaminants, and other unwanted materials. You might experience difficulty choosing the right cleaning products that do what you intend to achieve because of the variety of such products in the market. When SERVPRO cleans Bristol properties after flooding, the choice of cleaning product is based on the prevailing conditions and the effectiveness of the product.

Which factors determine the effectiveness of a cleaning agent against soiling from flooding?

  • Cleaning strength
  • Disinfectant properties
  • Deodorizing properties
  • Safety when used with other products

Flooding leads to various levels of soiling in many parts of the structure, including the floors and walls. It is common to find water lines on vertical surfaces separating the parts of a cat by floodwaters from the unaffected ones with a layer of soiling. The cleaning product used should be strong enough to strip away these soils from the affected materials.

Since floodwaters are a cocktail of organic and inorganic soils, our SERVPRO technicians consider cleaning products that can work against a broad spectrum of substances. Another indicator of product strength is whether its effectiveness changes during the cleaning process. In this case, strong products refer to those that work even when conditions such as pH change rather than working within a narrow pH range. The products should not be too strong to cause physical damage to the materials they are meant to clean.

How does flooding soil properties?

  • Causing bleeding of fabric dyes
  • Dislodging finishes from structural materials
  • Leaving residues such as mud and silt

Floodwater can soil your property by depositing materials collected outside the structure, such as mud or silt. Soiling can also originate within the structure when some materials deteriorate after exposure to water. For instance, fabrics such as upholstery, draperies, carpets, and even clothes can shed dyes when exposed to water over extended periods. Such dyes spread to other areas causing stains and other kinds of soiling. Other forms of deterioration, such as drywall crumbling or glues in composite materials liquefying, create soils that need removal from the property.

How strong should the ingredients in cleaning agents be?

Floodwaters contain all sorts of dangerous substances, including:

  • Disease pathogens such as bacteria and viruses
  • Harmful chemicals such as herbicides
  • Biohazards such as raw sewage

Removing all traces of the harmful substances requires vigorous action. The correct cleaning products that can kill, neutralize, or remove the harmful substances make it easier to restore the property to its usual sanitary conditions. It also simplifies the specific decontamination processes that you might need to carry out at the property. Our SERVPRO technicians use different categories of products with decontamination capabilities like:

  • Phenolics which work against bacteria, fungi, and blood-borne pathogens
  • Quaternary compounds that help against fungi and bacteria
  • Bleaches for germicidal action against viruses and bacteria

Do cleaning agents help control odors?

Odor management is a significant part of the equation when making plans to clean a flooded property. The floodwater might smell bad since it contains various kinds of wastes. Odor can also develop when water sits in a property over an extended period because of microbial growth or other chemical changes. Some cleaning products also emit strong smells, which might make people uncomfortable. Therefore, when planning the cleanup exercise, you must find products that can counter the awful odors caused by flooding while ensuring that the products do not introduce other strong smells.

Our SERVPRO technicians combine various approaches to address the issue of odor. In most cases, we use specially formulated cleaning products created without using ammonia, solvents, or fragrances. The ingredients used to formulate the products meet or exceed the EPA and Green Seal design for the environmental guidelines. The products are also rapidly biodegradable and free of VOCs, so they do not leave strong odors in the areas we clean.

Since cleaning products are not meant to work as fully-fledged deodorizers, we might add water-based deodorizers into the cleaning solutions to neutralize malodors and leave a sweet scent in the areas we clean. Incorporating deodorization in the cleaning process simplifies the finishing processes that your property needs to regain its preloss state.

Cleaning products play a crucial role in the restoration of flood-damaged materials. SERVPRO of Bristol uses the best products for a positive outcome. Call us at (860) 582-3330 to help clean up any soiling from your house, "Like it never even happened."

How Does Demolition and Water Damage Get Cleaned Up in Bristol?

10/10/2020 (Permalink)

Cleaning is a vital part of all the restoration work that our professionals do for water-damaged homes.

Severe water disasters in Bristol homes can destroy structural elements and leave a mess behind for experienced restoration professionals to address.

After any water disaster, cleaning up requires several immediate actions in Bristol homes, including extraction, debris removal, and even controlled demolition. Identifying what your property needs most comes from data collected during job scoping before mitigation work beginning. Our project manager and crew chief can develop a restoration plan based on the house's conditions and what must happen to protect it from continued water damages.

Both mitigation and water damage cleanup in Bristol homes requires a unique understanding of the damages. Choosing among cleaning and restoring or controlled demolition correlates directly with the actions necessary to return a property to preloss condition. Cleaning is a vital stage of the restoration process and knowing how these actions benefit the overall recovery process can show another reason that professionals like our SERVPRO team are desirable for a post-disaster response.

When Are Cleaning Practices Vital for Water Restoration?
    •    Collapse of Materials – Water losses can often lead to a weakening of exposed structural elements and construction materials. Sagging and collapsing materials must get cleaned up and discarded to prepare for reconstruction.
    •    Extraction – The need for water removal can leave films and debris throughout the property where the pooling existed. We focus on the surface, and floor cleaning efforts after surface water concerns have gotten addressed.
    •    Post Demolition – Removing damaged materials can create dust, debris, and other concerns for a household. We must clean up these messes to finalize the restoration process for customers.
    •    Carpet and Flooring Cleaning – The finish on wood flooring and the colorfastness of carpeting can become compromised with prolonged water exposure. Cleaning these materials can improve their appearance.

Cleaning is a vital part of all the restoration work that our professionals do for water-damaged homes. Give our SERVPRO of Bristol team a call anytime that you need us at (860) 582-3330.

Can I Reinstall Old Carpets After Property Flooding in Bristol?

9/3/2020 (Permalink)

Fixtures and fittings are often restorable after exposure to clean water supplies.

SERVPRO Aims to Restore Over Replace for Properties with Flood Damage in Bristol.

What Makes a Carpet Restorable?
Restoration of carpeted properties in Bristol can be complicated by the varying nature and causes of flooding. Generally speaking, carpets are recoverable, providing the source of flooding is a clean water supply. We consider clean water sources to be from internal or main water pipes and heavy rainfall. Property flooding that occurs as a result of flash flooding contains water contamination, which may make carpet replacement a necessity. SERVPRO technicians can perform an accurate assessment of water contamination during the initial scoping phase of flood and make necessary decisions about whether to restore or replace your carpets.

How Can I Reinstall Carpets after Flooding
Properties that sustain flood damage in Bristol are often restorable without wholesale replacement of fittings and fixtures. Wet carpets can be up to fifty percent weaker, so it is crucial that you enlist professionals to remove the mats and transport them for drying. Beneath the rug is a pad that can absorb moisture and break apart. These pads are inexpensive to replace. SERVPRO technicians can assess and dry the subfloor of your home using extractors and air movers. Once dry, we can replace the carpet pad as well as the dry carpet on top. During reinstallation, our technicians can assess the carpet for delamination or other signs of damage to ensure you do not suffer issues further down the line. These professional assessments are crucial to returning your home to its preloss condition.

What is the process of reinstalling carpets?
- Prepare the floor by cleaning and drying as well as removing the wet carpet pad
- If necessary replace the tackless carpet strip
- Install the carpet pad before overlaying with the clean, dry carpet

Fixtures and fittings are often restorable after exposure to clean water supplies. Contact SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 for restore over replace technicians.

SERVPRO Advises Bristol Pet Owners To Be Aware Of Fire Damage Risks

Bristol pet owners love their four-legged friends and want to keep them safe. Having a pet is a great way to relieve stress, and it is always lovely to come home from work or errands to an enthusiastic greeting. No one thinks of their pet as a health hazard, but there are some risks surrounding pet ownership.

Of course, a pet cannot purposefully cause fire damage in a Bristol home. The responsibility for fire safety lies firmly with the adult humans in the house! But that said, some unexpected fire damage risks come with pet ownership. It is good to be aware of the dangers now so you can take action to mitigate them.

What are some fire damage risks associated with pets?

SERVPRO wants local homeowners to be aware of the following potential risks:

    •    Pets can chew on power cords, and once they are damaged they can spark or short and start a fire
    •    Any animal that roams free around your room can knock over a candle and start a fire
    •    Dogs and cats have been known to drag their bedding around – unfortunately, this sometimes includes pulling it towards a space heater or candle
    •    It sounds unlikely, but it is not unheard of for pets to turn on the stove by jumping up and catching a knob
    •    If you let a pet lie on an electric blanket, it could chew it and damage the wires, or have an accident and cause an electrocution risk

What can I do to prevent a pet-related fire?

For every potential pet-related fire risk, there is an easy solution. Most fixes boil down to looking at possible fire hazards through a curious pet's eyes and making sure there is nothing in their path that can be chewed on, knocked over, moved, or switched on by mistake.

SERVPRO of Bristol suggests taking the following precautions:

    •    Always roll up and hide excess power cord, so there is less to chew – try to hide as much of the power cord as possible
    •    Use flameless LED candles or string lights instead of real ones – they create the same warm ambiance but with much less risk
    •    Place dog and cat beds in rooms that do not contain fire hazards such as space heaters or open fires – you can also install toddler gates to stop your pets roaming to places they should not
    •    Stove knob protectors were designed with small children in mind, but they also work well to prevent pets accidentally turning the dials
    •    Never let your pets lie on an electric blanket

Are pet bowls a fire risk?

Believe it or not, pet bowls can be a fire risk. If you have glass pet bowls and place them outside on wooden decking, there is a risk of sunlight filtering through the glass and setting fire to the wood. You can easily avoid this by the use of stainless steel or ceramic pet bowls.

How should I look after my pet in the event of a fire?

In the event of a fire, your pet is relying on you to get them to safety whatever the cause. SERVPRO recommends always keeping a few weeks of food and medicine, plus a few bottles of water, some bedding, and vaccination and vet records on hand, in case you and your pet need to make a hasty escape.

You can also get stickers to put on your front door, alerting firefighters to the type and number of pets in residence. This helps emergency services respond quickly and gives your pets a better chance of being found.

What can SERVPRO do to help?

Once you and your pets are safe and the fire service has extinguished the blaze, it is time to call us. We train our technicians to handle every aspect of fire mitigation, so you can trust us to restore your home, “Like it never even happened.”

We begin by assessing the situation and taking any immediate steps to secure the premises, such as boarding up the door or putting a tarp on the roof. We also check for potential health hazards.

Once we have assessed your home, we will discuss our proposed course of action with you to be sure you are happy with our plans.

The first step is to remove any water leftover from firefighting efforts, which we do with a combination of pumps, extractors, and extraction wands. If your soft furnishings are particularly water-logged, we dry them.

We clean your home and belongings thoroughly, using a mix of mechanical cleaning techniques (such as scrubbing) and chemical methods (such as spot-cleaning upholstery). Soot is challenging to tackle, but our technicians know how to handle it. Before we leave, we deodorize your home to make sure it smells as good as new.

How Likely is Mold Damage After Water Disasters?

8/9/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Says Prevent Mold Remediation in Your Bristol Home with Rapid Water Cleanup and Removal by Us!

When your Bristol home suffers a water disaster, it is vital to get the property thoroughly dried to avoid secondary effects like mold growth.

Saturation and the exposure of high permeability materials in your Bristol home can allow for unwanted movements. The movement of moisture and water throughout your property can become a considerable threat to the structure, especially when homeowners do not know how extensive or widespread this condition has become. DIY drying solutions do not always address the full scope of moisture threats in the house, leaving the properties acceptable to secondary conditions like mold and microbial growth.

Do Moldy Problems Often Accompany a Water Leak?

While you might not realize how likely mold damage in Bristol homes is, conditions continually exist to facilitate microbial threats based on higher humidity conditions in the area year-round. After property damage from water in Bristol, failure to appropriately dry these effects in the house can allow for the development of mold colonies from naturally occurring spores landing on damp surfaces. We utilize industry-leading tools to address surface moisture as well as trapped wet pockets inside wall systems.

How Can SERVPRO Prevent Mold Recurrences?

Preventing mold and microbial threats in your house does not have to be an insurmountable task, but it often requires our experienced contractors and mold remediation specialists. Not only must you address the current fungal threat, but you must also determine if lingering moisture was a result of a failure to dry your property after a recent disaster appropriately or if this dampness occurs from another source that must get corrected by our residential contractors. Our team of building trade professionals can offer:

  • Repairs
  • Reconstruction
  • Installing Dehumidifiers and Pumps

Not every water damage situation in a residence results in mold growth, but every one of these disasters can. Prolonged exposure to moisture and damp conditions allows mold spores to grow and colonize, presenting threats to the structure and possible health effects to the occupants. We offer thorough drying approaches with air movers, dehumidifiers, and other specialty evaporative drying tools. Give our SERVPRO of Bristol team a call anytime at (860) 582-3330.

Why Is Fire Damage in Your Burlington Kitchen So Tough to Restore?

8/3/2020 (Permalink)

Contact SERVPRO of Bristol day or night for professional assistance with fire damage restoration.

The Highly-Qualified Team at SERVPRO Understands the Demands of Protein-Based Fire Damage Restoration for Our Burlington Customers

Every “fuel” a household fire burns through is associated with a particular type of residue. The food and oils that suffered super-heating during a blaze in your Burlington kitchen create a fire damage coating like no other. The “soot” is not the incompletely combusted remains of building materials and contents like dry and wet soot. Instead, it is the dehydrated leavings of the meats, vegetables, fats, and oils. Its protein base means the residue is transparent but tightly adhered like varnish. The residue also has a strong stench, not surprisingly, because the remnants are heated past the smoke point, undergoing a chemical change that renders them rancid.

What Is the Answer to Removing Protein-Based Soot on the Way to Fire Damage Restoration?

SERVPRO crew members complete a rigorous training course from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to prepare for fire damage restoration in your Burlington home. We learn about the principles and elements of cleaning, using them as a guide:

Principles of Fire Damage Cleaning
    •    Locate residues
    •    Identify characteristics of residues
    •    Evaluate the type and durability of affected surfaces
    •    Capture and remove residues
    •    Lawfully dispose of residues and the cleaning solutions used

Element of Cleaning
    •    Temperature -- manipulate to impact the speed of chemical action and prevent shrinkage and color bleed
    •    Agitation -- deliberate use of friction impels a break in the bond between the affected surfaces and the residues
    •    Chemical Action -- soaps, detergents, and solvents dissolve or emulsify the residues to remove them
    •    Time -- also termed “dwell time,” it is the period a cleaning solution is permitted to work on loosening the debris

What Is the Balance We Create to Restore Residue-Free Surfaces?

Protein-based residues loosen most efficiently through the use of solvents, extended dwell times, and abrasive products or tools. Odor removal is particularly tricky and might require the addition of enzymatic products or thermal fogging or hydroxyl generation interventions.

Leaking pipes are one of the most common causes of water damage.

SERVPRO Handles Water Damage Restoration of All Kinds That May Impact Your Bristol Property

DIY methods alone take more time than necessary, but you also run the risk of making the damage worse. SERVPRO works to limit your Bristol home's loss, and We are Faster to Any Size Disaster. We understand that it is challenging to try to pick up the pieces with significant water damage, so we go over with you about what to expect when hiring professional restoration services.

Our IICRC-certified water restoration technicians (WRT) are highly trained and have an eye for detail, which allows us to tackle any water damage restoration in Bristol your property requires. These are just a few of the things that you can count on when you call our team:

  • Time Efficiency –Time is of the essence when it comes to a water damage incident within your home. Even if you think it might be okay to wait for a while to see what happens, calling in skilled technicians as soon as possible is the best option. SERVPRO technicians know that even the slightest amount of moisture can add up to a tremendous loss. We get the job done quickly to limit the damage and hopefully salvage as much as possible.
  • Step-By-Step Process –We follow along with a detailed plan of action when attacking any water restoration job to which we get called. This step-by-step plan is tailored to the situation at hand to have a clear and concise path to the best results. Our crew chief assesses the damage, uses a unique formula that tells the team what and how much equipment to utilize, and we get started. This process also allows us to adjust as we go to meet our cleanup and drying goals quickly.
  • Industrial-Grade Equipment –Mops and buckets might be okay for some small jobs, but there are many times when water damage restoration calls for high-powered and professional-strength equipment and tools. We bring along extraction tools, pumps, air movers, fans, and dehumidifiers to speed up our restoration efforts. Everything gets finished off with EPA-registered cleaning and deodorizing products.
  • Mold Remediation –The onset of mold brings with it the potential for health hazards. Because lingering moisture creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew to thrive, SERVPRO has standing measures to mitigate it. Proper sanitization is elemental for any water loss incident.

There are several common causes of water damage that we often receive calls for, including:

  • Appliance malfunction
  • Damaged piping or fixtures
  • Clogged drains
  • HVAC malfunction
  • Natural disasters
  • Sump pump issues
  • Drainage issues that lead to structural damage

Will I Have to Worry About Structural Damage?

The longer that water is left to fester within the loss zone, the more potential there is for a total loss of building materials and increased structural damage. Our crew takes the time to thoroughly inspect all structural elements to address areas that are cause for concern. If controlled demolition is necessary, everything is taken care of so that the final results make it look, "Like it never even happened."

What Else Can Affect Repair Costs?

No homeowner wants to find that the restoration bill is more substantial than they expected. We want all of our clients to know that several factors may impact the cost of repairs to your home after water damage in Bristol. These factors include:

  • The size and scope of the water loss zone
  • Whether or not there is still standing water present
  • The type of water the caused the damage
  • The kinds of materials damaged
  • The timeline

The larger the water-damaged area is, the more cost involved for the restoration, including manpower, materials, and time. Of course, the project's size mixed with other elements listed above can also increase the project's scope. For example, any water damage on the second floor of your home may seep down through the walls and floorboards to the lower level ceiling. These are all pieces of the puzzle that our trained team is available to address.

When it comes to materials, there are some reasons that the cost may vary. SERVPRO works to repair rather than replace whenever possible, but some damage may be irreversible. We will always go over all of your options to determine whether the cost of the materials for replacement will outweigh the mitigation efforts, and vice versa.

SERVPRO of Bristol is the team to call when you want rapid water damage restoration to bring your home back to preloss condition. You can have a team deployed to your property for emergency service by calling (860) 582-3330. We are available, 24/7!

How Can I Repair a Sagging Ceiling in my Bristol Home?

7/19/2020 (Permalink)

Protect your home from long-term damage.

SERVPRO is an Expert in Water Damage Restoration for Ceilings, Walls, Structure, and Contents in your Bristol Home

What causes ceilings to sag?

Water leaks that run between floors can often have a lasting effect on your Bristol home structure. Commonly, sagging ceilings occur beneath wet-rooms due to a water leak or insufficient sealant leading to moisture buildup inside the floor and ceiling cavity. Moisture in this region of the home can lead to noticeable yellowing of paintwork, cracking, and sagging, which can occur when boards become warped by absorbing moisture. It is not uncommon for homeowners to discover significant microbial growth issues, which may require specialist remediation in-between floor spaces. SERVPRO technicians are capable of independently assessing and restoring ceilings with water damage expertly. If you notice any symptoms, there could be a leak, and you should contact us right away.

How do you dry a ceiling or floor cavity?

When performing water damage restoration in your Bristol home, technicians may need to access a particular cavity or area of the subfloor. Usually, our team temporarily remove carpets, tiles, or floorboards to gain access to the subfloor. In situations where there is a long-term water issue, these methods are necessary to ensure that we can adequately clean and disinfect the area. We can also use air-moving equipment to circulate warm, dry air into the cavities and reduce the chances of microbial buildup. SERVPRO technicians can reinstall or replace any materials that we remove to access subfloors and leave your home in a clean, preloss condition.

What are the steps to fixing a sagging ceiling?

    •    Inspect the area using moisture sensors on both floor and ceiling
    •    Remove carpets, floorboards or tiling to gain access to the subfloor
    •    Thoroughly clean and dry the cavity using drying equipment.

Are All of My Belongings Ruined When Flood Water Soaks Them?

6/17/2020 (Permalink)

The service vehicles of SERVPRO in Bristol are on the move again for a flood restoration project. Don't worry, Call SERVPRO.

Let SERVPRO Show You How Our Contents Recovery Technicians Can Transform Your Soggy Stuff Back to the Pride of Your Bristol Home

Bristol might be in for another rainy summer, and that can mean only one thing for some homeowners--flood waters that attack both structures and contents alike. Disaster recovery companies aplenty vie for the chance to help with knee-deep water in basements and soaked attics, floors, and walls. But who can help with the heart of your home--the furniture, household goods, and personal treasures and belongings?

Do Any Flood Restoration Businesses Take Care of What Is Inside My House, Too?

We have one overriding goal--to make it “Like it never even happened.” When flood damage overwhelms in Bristol, we understand that your concerns extend beyond a wet cellar and broken drywall. Often, the structural components of a flood-ravaged home can look even better than preloss after mitigation, remediation, and restoration. Unfortunately, it is hard to rebuild a photo album, recreate the afghan grandma crocheted, or find the exact Teddy that lulled your child to sleep after sustaining damage in dirty flood water.

Why Not Just Toss Things to Which You Have No Attachment?

When your insurance carrier reviews claims they are cognizant always that restoration is less costly overall. You certainly can decide to buy new, but you might not receive reimbursement for that choice in all cases. SERVPRO works as your liaison with your insurance company, and it is not uncommon for your agent to suggest reaching out to us initially because of the positive experience their other insured clients had with our team. We develop a system that keeps you, our skilled content technicians, and the insurer in the same loop. Sometimes all agree to discard and replace, but our approach trends toward employing continually evolving equipment and techniques in the restoration industry that bring back your damaged belongings to the look, feel, and function they enjoyed before the flood.

How Do We Record and Track Items Removed for Processing Elsewhere?

We use a Contents Claim Inventory Service (CCIS) to develop a hybrid written and digital record of the belongings we pack out. Checklists, digital photos, and barcodes combine as a comprehensive way to keep tabs on your property, and document the efforts made to clean, dry, disinfect, and deodorize items.

What Are Some Surprising Things We Can Save?

  • Papers, Documents, Pictures

When water invades the storage area in your attic or basement after storm-related flooding, many items that you cannot replace are at risk. Boxes filled with awards, wedding albums and other pictures, documents from the historic (grandparents’ naturalization papers) to the necessary (handwritten wills) can look like pulp when you gingerly open the container.

How Do We Dry Papers and Photos?

Freeze-drying is an effective method for these fragile belongings. If there is a delay before our crew can arrive, stashing precious papers and photos in a deep freezer is a good strategy. Expect our technicians to ask you for a list of the items most essential to dry. We arrange for the wet papers or photos to undergo sublimation, whereby the frozen water is extracted to a vaporous state in a pressurized chamber, bypassing the liquid state.

  • Electronics

Many things run off of electronic circuitry these days, including obvious things like phones and computers, and also “smart” appliances.

How Do We Make Sure Electronics Dry Out for Use Again?

We work with electronics experts who assess whether your property is safe to operate. In our production facility or a dry area of your home, we build contained small drying chambers within which we can manipulate temperature, airflow, and humidity to ensure the workings and connections are at normal moisture levels.

  • Toys and Other Beloved Soft Items

Although you can try to replace a much-loved blanket or an heirloom tablecloth, the reality is your family knows and feels the loss. Our content processing technicians have many strategies and plenty of patience and experience to get these items back to pre-damage condition.

How Do We Turn the Clock Back on Textile and Soft Item Flood Damage?

Our content cleaning specialists have a “can do” attitude, and valuable experience in the trade. We work hard to return treasured possessions to our valued customers using our on-site commercial wash systems, small drying chambers, immersion tanks, proprietary detergents, and other tools and products.

The entire team at SERVPRO of Bristol is on board with both sides of flood damage cleanup--at your home for structures and our facility or another staging area for contents. Call us at (860) 582-3330 to start the flood damage remediation process fast.

Apart from the cost of buying new ones, you might have family heirlooms or rare items that you cannot replace. SERVPRO assists Bristol homeowners in responding the right way to fires, helping save valuable items.

Does fire damage furniture items uniformly in Bristol properties?

Many factors influence the outcome of fire incidents in Bristol. Items can be damaged by exposure to smoke, heat, and flames from the fire, depending on the materials they are made from. Typical materials used in furniture include:
    •    Wood or MDF
    •    Glass or Acrylic
    •    Plastic
    •    Leather

Fires affect these materials differently. For instance, flames consume fabrics fast but may take longer to damage glass or solid wood. On the other hand, it is easier to resurface fabrics sections in items compared to wood.

The level of damage also depends on the period of exposure. Quickly putting out a fire limits the damage from heat, flames, and smoke. However, there is still a risk of damage from exposure to moisture and residues, such as soot if restoration is delayed.

Which restoration steps help save furniture?

    •    Cleaning
    •    Drying
    •    Resurfacing or refinishing

Damages such as the accumulation of residues on any type of furniture are easier to manage through cleaning. Our SERVPRO technicians used a wide array of cleaning methods to achieve the objective since different materials interact with soils and cleaning products differently. Actions such as vacuuming and spray wiping help remove light residues while pressure washing or other deep-cleaning techniques help with deep soiling.

For the porous and semi-porous materials such as upholstery and wood, managing the moisture absorbed during cleaning or firefighting is crucial to forestalling severe problems. We take actions such as tenting cushions and boosting the drying process through dehumidification and evaporation.

How Do I Deal with Bristol Water Removal in The Middle of A Cold Season?

5/27/2020 (Permalink)

Leaking pipes can quickly cause water damage. Call SERVPRO for fast, effective remediation.

SERVPRO Has the Resources to Expedite and Minimize Inconveniences during Water Removal in Your Bristol Home

A leaking pipe or other sudden water intrusions during the cold season are a significant inconvenience. Even if they do not cause significant damages, handling the cold water during removal can feel like torture. Pipes burst readily in colder seasons because water expands when it freezes, increasing pressure inside the pipes leading to failure, especially at the joints.

What would a good response plan to cold weather water loss involve?

Water removal from Bristol homes during cold seasons may not vary significantly from the other seasons. However, there may be extra inconveniences, so the removal plan should address them. Our SERVPRO crews use different approaches to achieve this, including:

  • Minimizing demolition
  • Using a closed drying system
  • Expediting the restoration

Demolition to remove wet wall materials or other structural components is a typical step during water removal. However, since you need your house well insulated to keep out the cold, it is good to avoid unnecessary demolitions. Our technicians use non-evasive methods such as inspecting surfaces with thermal cameras to locate the wet areas and demolish only the affected areas.

Faster removal of surface water is necessary to resolve the incident fast. Combining different removal methods can help. Common options include:

  • Wet-vacuuming
  • Mopping
  • Draining trapped water

Does the cold weather affect the drying stage of restoration?

After removing surface water, focus shifts to drying materials. Drying involves evaporating moisture from the materials into the air, removing the air, or extracting the moisture from the air. For the process to run smoothly, the air in a room should have a higher temperature and lower humidity. Opening windows and doors to air their wet house would have a minimal effect during cold seasons. Our SERVPRO technicians use a closed drying system that utilizes air movers to speed up evaporation and dehumidifiers to extract moisture from the air.

SERVPRO of Bristol handles water removal in any season. Call us at (860) 582-3330 to assist. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Water Cleanup in Bristol

Are Professional Restoration Services Necessary for a Water Emergency in Bristol?

Water can adversely affect carpets, floorboards, wall cavities, and doorways. Sometimes water-related problems can lead to further issues like mold. To ensure you avoid secondary damages, contact a Bristol-based water restoration firm.

Can I salvage wet carpets after a water emergency?

Carpet fibers can become weak with exposure to water, which leads to ripping and tearing. You may also experience issues with delamination and microbial growth. However, providing that you initiate a restoration procedure early, there is a strong chance of being able to recover your carpets without requiring a replacement. Homeowners that use professional services for water cleanup in Bristol have a strong chance of recovering water losses because they are using qualified water restorers. The latter can inspect the issue and implement the necessary recovery equipment.

What is the process for carpet restoration?

    •    Inspect the carpets and use a moisture probe to ascertain whether water has reached the carpet pad
    •    Carefully detach the carpet using the appropriate tools and inspect the underside for delamination or mold issues
    •    If water has not permeated the subfloor or carpet pad, you can float the carpet using an air-mover to circulate warm air beneath the carpet
    •    If water has permeated the carpet, remove the carpet pad, cut it into small pieces and place in a double-sealed waste bag

How can I dry a wet carpet without detaching it?

Detaching a carpet is generally the fastest method to drying it because it allows airflow to circulate on the underside of the carpet. However, in some rooms, the time it takes to remove furniture may negate the drying time. SERVPRO technicians can perform in-place drying using a weighted extraction tool to circulate the perimeter of the carpet and working inwards. In-place drying is useful when the water has not permeated the carpet pad and can be less time-consuming than other methods of carpet restoration.

For expert carpet drying and restoration, contact SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330.

What Kind of Hardwood Fire Damage in Bristol Can Be Restored?

4/27/2020 (Permalink)

Depending upon the amount of damage, some hardwood furnishings can be restored.

Give SERVPRO the Chance to Bring Your Built-In Wood Furnishings Back to Life in Bristol

Beautiful cabinets, buffets, and woodwork are desirable elements, creating comfortable surroundings. After a fire, structures like walls and ceilings can be restored or replaced without changing your home's ambiance. Losing the unique styling of built-in cabinetry or original trim causes distress professional fire restoration professionals can avoid.

Can Damaged Wooden Cabinets Be Saved After a Fire?

The skills mastered by our highly-trained managers and technicians offer successful strategies to resolve significant hardwood fire damage suffered by Bristol properties. We consider the level of staining caused by smoke residues as well as blistering and other distortion from the heat of the blaze when determining our approach.

How Do Professionals Clean Fire-Damaged Hardwood?

SERVPRO Fire and Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT) have three options to clean up smoke and soot damaged hardwood furnishings and fixtures.

Does Fire Damage respond to Dry Cleaning?

We clean loose, ashy residues, and the pre-cleaning of almost all types of fire damage using dry cleaning methods. The tools employed include:

  • Vacuums
  • Feather dusters
  • Dusting cloths
  • Dry cleaning (chemical) sponges
  • Soft and stiff brushes
  • Art gum erasers

Special Notes:

Unfinished and unsealed wood must be dry cleaned as other methods might force residues and odors into the pores of the wood.

What Types of Fire Damage Responds to Wet Cleaning?

Moderate levels of fire residues adhering to surfaces need wet cleaning to loosen, dissolve, and suspend the coatings. Suggested products include:

  • Low alkali surface cleaners
  • Mild detergents specialized for hardwoods like wood oil soap

Special Notes:

Cleaning strokes must follow the grain of the wood.

What Fire Damage Needs Partial Refinishing?

Dense concentrations of fire residues require the cleaning techniques and products to adapt. To break the bond between the soot and the hardwood surface, we add the following aids:

  • Solvent-based cream cleaners
  • Extra-fine grade steel wool applicators

Special Notes:

Skilled technicians adjust pressure and amounts of cleaning products to minimize harm.

Post firefighting watermarks can disappear using semi-refinishing.

Let SERVPRO of Bristol use industry-leading protocols to restore hardwood fire damage in your home. Call us at (860) 582-3330 to schedule an evaluation.

Where Do I Start To Cleanup Commercial Fire Damage In Bristol?

4/18/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 handles commercial fire damage in local properties of any size.

SERVPRO has decades of experience handling fire loss in local Bristol commercial properties

When a fire happens, particularly in a commercial property, whether it is an apartment building or a warehouse or a professional apartment building, it needs specific types of cleaning for the best outcome. It can be overwhelming to see charred items pushed towards the middle of the room and saturated with water. Then there is the smoke damage on walls. Prioritizing the restoration of the property can be confusing for where to begin.

What is the Best Way to Remove Smoke and Commercial Fire Damage from Walls and Ceilings in My Business?
A lot can go wrong if you choose to work on commercial fire damage in your Bristol property yourself. Commonly seen additional problems created by incorrect cleaning methods include:
    •    Liquids applied to dry smoke causing it to stain surfaces
    •    Scrubbing of soot on walls driving it in deeper
    •    Missed water damage wicking into sheetrock and seeping under flooring into the subfloor
    •    Leaving charred items behind leaves soot odor in the property

How to Reduce Fire Odor Through Cleaning
Soot produces smoke odors after a fire, and since particles smaller than the human eye can see are common, it is nearly impossible to clean away the fire odors without some professional help. When SERVPRO techs handle cleanup in Bristol commercial properties, one of the things the techs do immediately on arrival is to scope the property to determine the scale of the fire loss. Items that appear too charred for restoration services through cleaning methods undergo a detailed documentation process, including photographs before approved disposal off-site.

Air scrubbers are a big help for reducing odors, and the techs frequently run them during the entire mitigation process so they can continually capture soot particles.

How Can I Prevent Soot and Fire Odors From Spreading Throughout My Property?
When SERVPRO techs handle fire loss restoration in commercial property, they turn off the HVAC as soot can get pulled into the ductwork and set up containment as needed. Standard containment tactics involve the covering of doorways and vents with a heavy-weight plastic to form a barrier between the work area and the rest of the building. In other cases, the techs can set up negative air chambers to port away soot and help improve the air quality during mitigation.

What is the Best Way to Clean Smoke Damage From Surfaces?
The surface the residue is on is a significant consideration as some cleaners can mar surfaces. Before cleaning, the techs test the residues to find the best application in regards to both the type of smoke as well as the surface it was left behind on. Broadly defined, smoke residues from a structure fire that does not involve proteins, fit into two categories:
    •    Dry Smoke-has a dry, powdery appearance and gets addressed using pick-up methods first before cleaning the surface with wet cleaning agents.
    •    Wet Smoke-has a greasy appearance and smears easily. It can be difficult to remove without the assistance of a solvent-based cleaner.

Odor Control
The majority of fire loss in Bristol properties leaves behind some type of fire odor that needs addressing. No one wants to live in an apartment building or work in an office that looks great but smells like smoke. That means soot is actively present and can be an irritant if left unmitigated. The techs have several different methods for odor control. In many instances, there is a need to overlap methods such as time-release gel pellets after thermal fogging or running a hydroxyl generator to ensure that neutralized odors stay that way. When soot cannot get removed from walls and ceilings through standard methods, the techs often apply a sealant and recommend repainting over the area, so there is no sign of the previous fire loss through sight or smell.

Prepping for Repairs and Reopening
Once the property gets its restoration services completed, the tech makes a note of the repairs that need to happen to bring the structure back to its preloss condition. Commonly needed repairs include the installation of carpet or tile, new sheetrock, or paint walls and ceilings.
If any equipment has potential damage from the effects of the fire, SERVPRO techs can arrange for an industry professional to inspect electronics before reuse to ensure they are safe.

SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 handles commercial fire damage in local properties of any size. The certified technicians clean up the loss and restore the property to its pre-fire condition using their proven techniques and advanced equipment.

What Should I Prioritize In Case of Flood Damage in My Bristol Home?

An Experienced Restoration Team Like SERVPRO Evaluates Loss Sites Quickly Establishing the Best Response

Although a flooding incident might leave your home resembling a scene from a warzone, it is possible to restore preloss conditions fast by responding correctly. For most people, the biggest challenge is not knowing which actions to prioritize during the restoration. Through the training and experiences our technicians have, we can help you structure the restoration process in a way that minimizes secondary damages, addresses hazards, and improves the turnaround time.

What actions typically have top priority?

Although each flood damage incident in Bristol is unique, some issues recur in many incidents and thus require immediate attention. Some of the steps that help deal with such issues include:

  • Identifying structural hazards or other risks at the loss site
  • Boarding up the property for protection
  • Water extraction
  • Partial or complete content move-outs

The damage caused by flooding to a structure happens in stages, so prioritizing actions that can prevent or minimize the damages that occur in later stages is helpful. For example, problems such as mold growth take at least 24-48 hours to start developing. The growth is also gradual, and therefore quick action limits the damage likely to occur. Our SERVPRO technicians help by extraction water fast or performing other steps such as removing carpets, drywall, insulation, and other structural materials that favor mold development.

Are there high-priority actions unrelated to property damage?

A flood-damaged property poses many risks to anyone who ventures in to perform restoration activities or otherwise. Injuries from electrical faults or slipping on slick surfaces are highly likely. Our SERVPRO technicians try to prevent such outcomes by taking actions such as:

  • Checking for electrical faults
  • Marking hazardous areas such as slippery floors
  • Checking for structural weakness

SERVPRO of Bristol can help you streamline flood damage restoration. Call us any time at (860) 582-3330. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Winter Flooding in Bristol, SERVPRO Explains Frozen Factors

2/22/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Helps Mitigate the Damage from Storms and Ice Damage in Bristol

SnowMelt and RainWater: A Combination Leading to Flood Damage in Bristol

Central Connecticut residents tell many stories of severe flooding during all times of the year. Bristol experiences significant damage as the tail-end of hurricanes or summer trains of thunderstorms roar through the community, often filling basements and crawl spaces with contaminated overland floodwaters. The transition between winter and spring adds the potential for a substantial “bump” in flood water quantity, including in the Pequabuck River, because of snowmelt. Winter’s freezing and thawing cycles, forming roof-edge ice dams, can also quietly allow severe water damage rivaling flooding to compromise your home from the top down.

Late Winter Storms Increase Flooding Risk
After months of winter storms and snowmelt, flood damage in Bristol is not unusual. The ground is still frozen in late winter, unable to absorb water. As the ice and snow melts, subsequent sleet and rainstorms add to the moisture load, which then flows into homes rather than soaking into yards and other green spaces.

Cold Weather Flood Remediation Challenges
Even if daytime temperatures rise, overnight temperatures remain at or below freezing. Crawl spaces, in particular, require flood water removal adaptations as much of the moisture forced inside presents as ice, slush, or snow. SERVPRO technicians need to shovel out the partly and completely frozen water to halt further damage when it begins to melt.

Ice Dams--A Unique Type of SnowMelt Flood Damage
SERVPRO technicians responding to mysterious flooding of lower levels look upwards during investigation and evaluation, especially if icicles dangle. When warm air rises through inadequately insulated and sealed joints between the roofline and the cold outdoors, any build-up of icy snow or an ice dam melts a bit, leaking back into your home. Over an extended period, the water flowing silently down between interior and exterior walls can collect in substantial quantities, eventually breaking through ceilings or bubbling wallpaper or paint. It also can accumulate behind baseboards, seeping through to damage floors and soak carpeting on many levels.

Storms, snow, and water can all result in flood damage that SERVPRO of Bristol can help you conquer. Call us at (860) 582-3330 to see what our talented and trained crews can do.

Cleaning Fire Damage In Your Bristol Home

Using Agitative Cleaning to Enhance Fire Damage Recovery in Your Bristol Home

Soiling or smoke residues that are left on walls, ceilings, and surfaces after a fire are made up of thousands of individual particles. Temperature changes generate pressure that can force these particles onto, or into, surfaces. While a sturdy finish like varnish or paint may be able to repel some of these particles, the constant barrage can also wear away the finish allowing soots to bond with the surface. Sometimes, merely washing a surface can set soots which react to moisture and can make the surface tougher to clean. The trick to restoring a home properly is to find ways of loosening soots from surfaces before washing them off using wet products.

The first instinct when performing home fire damage restoration in Bristol is to apply water and soap mixtures to the surface. At SERVPRO, we advise against using water in the cleaning process until the removal of loose soots is complete. Water-based cleaning products can have the opposite of the intended effect by spreading soots around, setting them into surfaces, or causing colorfast bleeding and dripping. Rather than focus on wet-cleaning, our fire, and smoke damage restoration technicians (FRST) use agitation.

Agitation is an effective method for loosening soils before removing them. Dry soots may not yet be bonded with a surface, and providing light vacuuming over soiling can be extremely useful in tackling minor damages. Agitation is possible directly onto a dry surface or for use in combination with a cleaning solution. The goal is to move the surface as much as possible and with it any smoke residues. These loose residues are then far more likely to respond well to more direct washing or cleaning.

In some situations, a homeowner can achieve excellent results by using brushes, scourers, or dry sponges directly onto the affected area. Where there are significant amounts of soiling, SERVPRO can deploy mechanical agitation equipment. Rotating brushes can clear a heavily soiled surface much quicker than manual cleaning. Equally, air pressure hoses for indoor soils or water pressure for outdoor can be capable. Some charred elements of structure may benefit from sandblasting, which removes both soot and surface to provide a clean, smooth finish.

Dry cleaning can be the number one factor in restoring a home to its preloss condition and avoiding further damages. Contact SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 now.

We Are The Right Choice For Your Bristol Water Damage Restoration

1/29/2020 (Permalink)

When you experience significant water damage, you can count on our crew. We are available 24/7, so call us right away to prevent further damage.

Rapid Professional Water Removal in Bristol Minimizes Mold Damage Risk

Bristol homeowners who fail to arrange for fast mitigation and remediation after a water loss can be in for distressing secondary damage. The window of time to avoid mold growth is distressingly short -- spores can absorb moisture and begin multiplying within 24 to 48 hours. Engaging the services of our professional Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT) gives you an excellent chance of extracting water and drying out moisture before a mold infestation takes hold.

Efficient Extraction

When a plumbing or appliance mishap necessitates water removal in Bristol, our initial focus is selecting the equipment and methods that promise fast and thorough extraction. As our project manager evaluates the extent of the water migration from the initial intrusion, crew members begin emergency measures.

If the water is deeper than two inches, gas-powered submersible pumps are positioned to off-load water through hosing out of the structure.

As the water level lowers, we add wanded extractors, suctioning liquid from surfaces.

Our truck-mounted models feature high capacity and on-vehicle generators. Portable extractors are essential as well, permitting our technicians to move freely into confined spaces and suction water from recessed areas.

Mapping Moisture Migration

Removing visible water damage is only phase one of our restoration project. SERVPRO crew leads coordinate moisture detection and measurement using sensitivity probes to define the reach of the water loss. Water moves away from the original leak or accident, percolating into subflooring and seeping through crevices and porous building materials to take up residence in obscured cavities.

Structural Drying Minimizes Mold Risk

Permitting hidden caches of water or moisture in saturated structural components to linger is sure to fuel a mold outbreak. Mold spores are always present, awaiting a bit of water, a day or two of dwell time, and organic matter for nourishment. Many conventional building materials provide sustenance for the microbes when wet, including drywall, wood framing and subsurfaces, some types of insulation, and hardwood floors and trim. The SERVPRO team uses the moisture data collected to release trapped water and establish drying goals for various structural components. We position air movers to accelerate the evaporation of water from structures. Temperature adaptations and removal of water vapor help strike a balance needed to dry out your home, accomplished with heaters and dehumidifiers.

Mold Remediation Services

As we complete the water removal project, including structural drying, SERVPRO employees are vigilant in searching for any signs of mold growth. If we find mold, our skilled remediation specialists devise an abatement plan to contain and remove the active colonies, finishing with disinfection using EPA-registered antimicrobials.

Full-spectrum water removal, drying, and mold remediation services provide successful results for the customers of SERVPRO of Bristol. Call (860) 582-3330 to schedule an evaluation of the best practices needed to resolve your water loss.

SERVPRO Takes On Commercial Water Removal in a Bristol Laundromat

1/24/2020 (Permalink)

Trust the experts at SERVPRO with all of your water removal needs.

Expert Commercial Water Removal for Bristol Business’

When running a business like a laundromat, water damage is always a risk. Without thorough professional mitigation, this damage can affect appliances, flooring, walls, subflooring, and much more. In the right conditions, even small disasters can breed mold and other microbes and put customers, appliances, and structures at risk.

If your Bristol business requires commercial water removal services from an experienced team, you can count on the professionals at SERVPRO to get the job done right the first time. SERVPRO's extraction tools, EPA-registered antimicrobials, and industrial-grade drying equipment all work together to restore businesses to their preloss conditions. Certified technicians work closely with property owners and insurance adjusters to ensure that cleaning is done to code.

Laundromat Insurance Tips

  • Double-check your insurance policy. It may cover replacing washers and dryers, but may not cover the full cost of water damage due to appliance failure. When itemizing damages, be sure to look at floors, walls, assets that may have been damaged, and paperwork. Also, be sure to account for lost earnings.
  • Look over your lease. This is an important step, as insurance requirements and the burden of responsibility are usually detailed in your contract. Have your attorney review your leasing papers with you to ensure accurate interpretation of legal terminology.
  • Compensate your workers. If you have staff on-site handling tasks like folding or drying, it is necessary to have workers' compensation included in the insurance policy. Make sure to have adequate funds available in case a customer files a claim against you due to water damage.

How SERVPRO Helps Businesses

SERVPRO uses a multi-pronged approach to clean up water, remove odors, and dry structures after a disaster occurs. Depending on the extent of the damage, technicians can use everything from portable, back-mounted extractors and submersible gas-powered sump pumps to truck-mounted extraction equipment to thoroughly remove water and prepare the space for drying.

After removing water, carefully-placed air movers and dehumidifiers can work in tandem to dry out the structure. As parts of the space get increasingly dry, polyethylene drying chambers may be set up to accelerate the drying process. In the event of odors or further cleanup necessities, SERVPRO also utilizes OSHA-approved antimicrobials, as well as commercial-grade deodorizing equipment, to get you back in business.

SERVPRO of Bristol serves the community because We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster. You can call (860) 582-3330 for disaster cleanup service at any time of the day or night.

Crucial Services SERVPRO Offers After Flood Damage Incidents in Burlington

Flooding incidents in Burlington might hit when you least expect them. The great news is that you can rely on professional restoration companies such as SERVPRO to manage any challenge that the incident causes.

Although all flood damage incidents in Burlington involve water intrusion into a property, they also vary in many ways, so there is a need for the team mitigating the loss to have the resources to respond to a wide range of issues. Our SERVPRO technicians can help with issues such as:

    •    Securing the property
    •    Removing standing water
    •    Removing and disposing of biohazards
    •    Handling hazardous materials
    •    Drying materials or contents
    •    Deodorizing bad odors

The need to secure a property after flooding arises if there are shattered windows, torn roofs, or other unexpected openings left by flying debris, strong winds, or other factors prevalent during the flooding incident. Our SERVPRO technicians secure the property in different ways, including boarding up, installing roof tarps, or even setting up containment zones using 6-mil plastic sheets inside the property.

Many flooding situations involve hazardous materials or even biohazards. Removal and disposal of such materials need special attention because they pose health risks. Our SERVPRO technicians have access to personal protective equipment such as rubber gloves, boots, and respirators, among others allowing us to handle the process safely. We also have resources that help with the storage of materials before disposal, including plastic bags and trashcans.

Since the principal issue with flooding is water, having sufficient capacity for extraction and drying is crucial. Our SERVPRO technicians use a variety of water extraction equipment, including specialized ones such as self-priming trash pumps, submersible pumps, and high-speed pumps, depending on the conditions at your loss site. We also have the necessary drying equipment to manage moisture intrusion in different parts of the building. For example, air movers and dehumidifiers help reduce humidity in the air and materials. We also have cavity-drying equipment in case there is moisture in the hidden parts of a property.

Flood damage requires different resources to resolve. Call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 to help respond to any incident, “Like it never even happened.”

Science of Soot Removal: Why SERVPRO Succeeds at Burlington Fire Damage Recovery

The resolution of fire residues in your Burlington home requires a comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics of different types of soots and the elements of cleaning. The intensive training our managers and technicians receive from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) prepares our crews to match the tough soling after a fire to precisely the solution needed, why we are confident and consistent in our approach.

Post-Fire Cleaning Is Not Always Straightforward
After the stress and the fear of a household blaze, the last thing you need is hard to reverse mistakes made during fire damage restoration in Burlington. The dark soiling found on surfaces all over your home after a fire can smear and grind into walls and ceilings if not removed appropriately. Not only do these cleaning errors result in persistent staining, but the odors carried by the soot particles also remain embedded, causing issues for the long term.

Capturing and Removing Residues
When the burns hot and the materials are paper and wood, the resulting ash is relatively simple to vacuum or dry sponge away. Lower temperature burns of plastics and rubber deposit a sticky, thick soil that adheres closely. Cleaning involves dissolving the soot and loosening it from the surface. The need to know how to select the correct combination of cleaner and method is why SERVPRO’s team can deliver excellent results. We determine whether the soil is water-soluble, or not, and in need of a solvent, by pre-testing.

Surfaces Respond Differently As Well
The bond between soot and its surface requires us to determine too whether the wall, floor, ceiling, or other structure can withstand either a water-based cleaner or solvent. Dissolving the soot is an excellent result unless the cleaner also dissolves or distorts the surface from which we want the soot released. Advanced training is why SERVPRO technicians can anticipate challenges during fire damage cleanup and devise ways to overcome them. We take care as we consider the other elements of cleaning, such as temperature adjustments, agitation, and dwell time. Cleaning must achieve a balance that avoids damaging surfaces while releasing and rinsing away soot.

Extensive training and hands-on experience are why SERVPRO of Bristol can clean up fire damage without destroying the underlying building materials. Call us at (860) 582-3330 to see the difference our highly-qualified team delivers.

Mitigating Damage with Commercial Water Cleanup in Burlington

Regardless of what business you are in, protecting the contents of your commercial space at all times is essential. Commercial and industrial buildings often house equipment, furniture, files, and many other materials that are easily damaged with water intrusion of any kind. Calling the experts at SERVPRO to help orchestrate your water cleanup helps you to get your commercial space back to good as new before you know it.

When your Burlington space requires commercial water cleanup, we can get to work immediately to help minimize the loss and potential hazards. The sooner that you begin water removal efforts, the more damage is prevented. Our team understands that the contents of your building are essential to the livelihood of your business, so we work swiftly yet carefully to ensure the best results.

At SERVPRO, we are the Commercial Drying Specialists (CDS) that you need to tackle water intrusion after an interior accident or the onset of floodwaters. We understand the complexities of drying, especially on a larger commercial scale. If you have a clean water cleanup, it may be safer than gray or black water, but an immediate response is still critical.

When you call our team for commercial water damage cleanup, we can come out to do a full assessment and start with extraction processes. After the water is brought down to a manageable level using pumps, we can then get to work with handheld vacuums to bring up the rest. Mold and moisture love infiltrating porous materials, so we take the extra time to look for water under carpeting, flooring, tiles, and behind the walls. If your water damage came from an undetected leak, there could also be extensive damage behind the walls and under the subfloor that we can address by pulling up materials for replacement.

After all the moisture is removed from your commercial space, SERVPRO technicians get to work with cleaning and disinfecting using specialized products to kill off microbes and keep foul odors from developing.

For all commercial water damage and cleanup needs, you can count on our certified technicians at SERVPRO of Bristol. Whenever disaster strikes, call us 24/7 for emergency service at (860) 582-3330.

Flooding In Burlington Home

12/15/2019 (Permalink)

Give our SERVPRO of Bristol team a call for more information about encapsulation and how it can help.

Crawlspace Encapsulation for Repeat Flooding in Burlington Homes

You might not realize the negative effect that your crawlspace can have on your Burlington home. Many property owners live in lower-lying areas, making flooding an unfortunate certainty for many of these houses, especially in the space beneath the structure. Crawlspaces promote the circulation of air throughout your home and provide access to utility hubs beneath the residence. In situations where flooding occurs, this exposure of your house could be damaging or even hazardous.

With the direct available access to the supports and subflooring of your house from the crawlspace, flood damage in Burlington properties can have a destructive effect. Some of your neighbors have undoubtedly insulated this underlying area of their structure to prevent circulating cold air from penetrating aging flooring materials. Without this circulation of air, the house is easier to heat and cool over the year. Encapsulating your crawlspace is another crucial step homeowners should consider when flooding can be a threat.

Excessive moisture and direct water exposure can lead to the rotting and deterioration of wood supports and framework. This same elevated moisture content can promote the growth of microbial threats on joists and flooring supports running the entire length of the crawlspace. Active mold colonization can spread quickly, which can even infiltrate the upper living space. Our SERVPRO team can work to remove the immediate flooding effects and design an encapsulation plan that can keep this space dry and free of fungal threats for the future.

Encapsulation is the application of thick 20mil plastic sheeting on all exposed surfaces, even the bare ground. Before this gets installed, the area is thoroughly dried with air movers and dehumidifiers, followed by a treatment of antimicrobial sporicides on all organic materials. This step inhibits any mold growth that might have developed in the immediate future. Every structural face gets covered, and in situations where flooding can still be a concern for structures, we install diversion equipment like permanent sump pumps with floats for as-needed water removal.

Flooding can be a destructive force, and it can also be a nuisance to those with crawlspaces in flood-prone areas. Give our SERVPRO of Bristol team a call for more information about encapsulation and how it can help. You can reach us 24/7 at (860) 582-3330.

How SERVPRO Removes Water in Burlington

11/26/2019 (Permalink)

Our technician is getting ready to use high velocity water extraction equipment in this home.

Water Removal from Your Burlington Home

There is often more to water removal than meets the eye. Even a small water leak in your kitchen has the potential to seep into places you least expect it. Homeowners do not necessarily think about water settling in cupboard cracks or under tile flooring. However, there is potential for long-term damage under your floors or behind your cabinets if you do not remove the water right away. There is also a dangerous potential for mold infestations.

Water removal in Burlington completed by professionals is the most thorough. You may be able to use towels to sop up some of the standing water from a burst pipe in your home. However, the trained SERVPRO technicians can remove water to ensure no lingering secondary damage.

SERVPRO technicians remove water by making several passes with extractors and use air movers to direct air into wall cavities, and in some cases, under flooring. Although tile flooring may appear completely dry if there is any structural vulnerability in the grout, there is the possibility of the moisture trapped underneath the tiles. Failing to remove the excess moisture could rot floorboards, creating further damage to your home.

Through the use of air moving drying equipment that directs air into small spaces through the use of vents, hoses, and blowers, moisture levels decrease. Pushing air with high velocity helps dry any remaining moisture from out of the way places within the room. Air movers are an essential part of water removal.

Water removal is not complete without the simultaneous use of dehumidifiers. In cases of excess water, the ambient moisture levels usually need to be brought down below 60 percent. Dehumidifiers curtail the amount of moisture in the air, bringing down the humidity ratio, which increases the rate of evaporation of moisture within the room. The air evaporates into the air, and the dehumidifier continues to remove it from the air until the room and contents are dry.

Ultimate Solution When Dealing With a Fire Damage Situation in Burlington

11/22/2019 (Permalink)

When facing fire damage in your home, it’s important to contact a company who will also deal with residual odors.

How SERVPRO Stops Burlington Homes From Smelling Like Fire Damage

One of the worst things about fire damage, is the residual odors that often linger long after the charred materials and clean up for the property have occurred. The fact is, the residents do not have to learn to "just live with it" as smoke odors are a sign of incomplete fire mitigation in the home.

The removal of fire damage in Burlington homes is a multi-layered process. The ambient air quality after the fire loss cleanup and recovery efforts is a significant concern for SERVPRO technicians. They work hard during each phase of fire loss restoration to ensure foul odors do not remain within the home.

Water Extraction Reduces Odors

When water is part of the fire fighting efforts, if any moisture gets left behind, foul odors and even mold with its own musty calling card have the potential to complicate the fire loss restoration process. SERVPRO technicians carefully scope the property and extract the water before moving on to the drying and odor treatment applications.

Drying and Ventilation

SERVPRO technicians utilize both containment and negative air chambers as needed to keep soot from traveling via ductwork or foot traffic to other areas of the home and helps lower odors. They also run air scrubbers fitted with HEPA filtration to improve air quality further. Technicians then wipe down all surfaces in the fire loss area to remove all traces of smoke residues.

Direct Smoke Odor Treatment Methods

There are times when residual odors remain after drying and hand cleaning surfaces. SERVPRO has a diverse array of odor control equipment to assist in the eradication of pungent smoke odors in the home. For porous items that may retain smokey odors, applications such as thermal fogging work to eliminate odors in things such as carpet and upholstered furnishings. For capturing airborne particulate, hydroxyl generators safely bind with odorous soot and neutralize it.

SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 stands ready 24/7 to help local property owners bounce back from fire damage through the use of state of the art technology and extensive training to make the fire loss in the home "Like it never even happened."

We Can Save Your Bristol Bistro With Fast Floodwater Removal

11/13/2019 (Permalink)

Having a clear response plan to disasters helps ensure your business recovers.

A Bristol Bistro Benefits from Fast Floodwater Removal

The jumping Bistro in this Connecticut town is back open for business after that terrible rainstorm. This proved to be a welcome relief to the regulars and respite to the travelers stuck by the flooding.

Any incident of commercial flood damage that affects Bristol businesses can have a catastrophic outcome if not properly managed. Although most of the damage might happen immediately after the storm breaches the structure, secondary problems, including mold, air quality issues develop as water sits in the structure.

The proprietor of this Bristol Bistro, recognizing that flooding can shut his business down, quickly utilized the ERP mobile app plan that SERVPRO had set up for just such an emergency. The patrons are relaxing, enjoying the music along with a drink and snack, not knowing the foresight that allowed this evening to happen.

The booths, tiled flooring, and bar show no signs of water, mud, or odors, thanks to SERVPRO's rapid response to the urgent call for help from the head barista, who was aware of the Emergency READY Profile Plan and more importantly, how to use it. The plan has three main aspects starting with incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

As part of the response to the incident, taking various steps such as moving contents and creating protective barriers over contents with plastic sheets proved helpful in limiting the areas affected by water intrusion. Safety also forms part of the response plan, which is why our crews prioritized actions such as turning off power mains and using Electrical Circuit Testers to confirm whether there were risks of electrocution, especially on wet surfaces.

With the ERP plan, performing the disaster recovery steps such as water extraction, cleanup, and drying was straightforward because it contains crucial information like the total surface area of the bistro as well as the total square foot of the floor. Supplementary information such as architectural plan and floor materials also made it easier to execute the entire process.

Having a clear response plan to disasters helps ensure your business recovers. Call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330 to help develop a comprehensive response plan. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

How Fallen Trees Can Damage a Granby Home’s Roof

10/31/2019 (Permalink)

Whether a tree has damaged your roof during a storm or other storm related damage has occurred, contact our team at SERVPRO.

Storm Damage Remediation is Crucial to Your Granby Home. Learn Why!

Severe weather events that can threaten Granby homes do not always damage your home in ways that you might expect. With harsh winds and torrential rainfall, aging or dying trees can uproot or split, allowing it to fall into your house. The roof of your property was not made to sustain blunt impact and can give way and collapse in these strike zones.

How storm roof damage to Granby homes gets addressed is what sets our professional restoration team apart from the competition we face in the area. We have a comprehensive approach to restoration and recovery, supplying both accredited technicians for water or cleaning restoration inside the house and a team of licensed general contractors on-site with our sister company Nutmeg Restoration. This full team of professionals focuses on addressing three primary areas of focus when contending with tree damage.

Tree Removal

One of the many services offered by our experienced team is removing the tree that has caused structural damage. This initial effort removes continued threats to your property and allows our contractors to get to work on repairing structural concerns.

Roof Tarping

Emergency construction solutions are a vital element to restoration and recovery in its earliest phases. To reduce or entirely prevent flooding or water exposure, our roof tarping service encompasses the entire damaged portion of the roof. The use of 2x4 wood planks prevents tarp removal by the wind and creates a seal so rain and moisture cannot penetrate the barrier.

Mitigation

If water damage exists inside of the house, these situations must get addressed immediately to reduce the threat of secondary effects like mold growth. Even without moisture or flooding concerns, our cleaning technicians can work on debris removal and damage assessment inside to prepare the home for the full-scale reconstruction to follow.

Many unfortunate storm damage scenarios can compromise the roof of your family home. Even though this situation can be stressful and challenging, you can trust in the comprehensive approach of our SERVPRO of Bristol team to help. You can reach us 24/7 by calling (860) 582-3330.

A Leaking Sprinkler System Can Cause Major Damage To Your Bristol Home

10/26/2019 (Permalink)

We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Leaking Sprinkler Systems In Bristol

Some residential condos started as commercial properties and were then converted to condos and sold to homeowners. Since these condos were initially commercial buildings, sprinkler systems were installed. After many years the plastic piping providing water to each sprinkler head may begin developing pinhole leaks. Water slowly leaks onto the ceiling and eventually into the living space.

SERVPRO can respond to these water removal situations in Bristol. The ceiling fills with water and begins to sag. In some cases, water leaks through the light fixtures onto the floor below. Since water has been present for an unknown period, mold may develop, and the ceiling material becomes waterlogged.

Ceiling Removal and Repair
Although there is a pinhole leak in the pipe, water can spray over a large area of the ceiling. It may also seep through the ceiling some distance from the actual leak. Repairing the leak often involves replacing a large section of pipe. Replace the pipe and connections joints due to the age of the pipe.

SERVPRO would remove all of the furniture in the room and place protective coverings over the floors before removing the ceiling material. Any liquid water would be mopped up first before removing the ceiling. We remove all of the materials from the ceiling in these situations, and our technicians can conduct a complete assessment. Our SERVPRO technicians can check for mold, damage to the structure, and the wiring/light fixtures.

Moisture Removal
Often repairs to the sprinkler system occur at the same time. We can install air movers that are directed towards the ceiling to dry the joists. Dehumidifiers can be placed in the room to remove humidity from the air and bring the moisture levels down to normal levels.

Repair the ceiling once the sprinkler system is repaired, and everything is dry. We can clean the floors and return all the furniture. Our objective is to make your home as good as new, “Like it never even happened.”

Indications You Might Have Bigger Concerns After A Fire In Your Burlington Home

9/24/2019 (Permalink)

Our technicians are trained, certified, and available 24/7 at (860) 582-3330.

Signs You Might Have Bigger Issues Than Fire Damage in Your Burlington Home

When a home has fire damage, it leaves behind many issues beyond charring and smoke; numerous hazards have the potential to crop up due to inadequate cleaning.

Sometimes when SERVPRO assists Burlington homeowners with fire damage cleanup and restoration, it is not uncommon for technicians to find signs of previous cleaning efforts. This presents significant challenges for restoring the home because incorrect cleaning methods cause more harm to surfaces and finishes.

DIY Fire Cleanup May Cost You
To save money or time, homeowners frequently attempt the cleanup of smoke residues on their own. This is often a mistake; for example, using liquid cleaners on dry smoke residues drives it deeper into surfaces. Scrubbing thick, oily residues leaves damage on the surface and pushes the soot into cracks, rendering it more challenging to remove. Signs of improper cleanup are smears and staining on surfaces and a smoke odor.

Signs of Inadequate Water Cleanup
Extinguishing a fire leaves behind copious amounts of water that requires removal. It migrates quickly under floors, behind baseboards and walls requiring drying. Leaving this moisture behind sets the home up for mold growth and foul odors. SERVPRO technicians use a diverse array of moisture detection equipment to ensure water is not overlooked.

Signs of Mold
Mold is always a danger after a fire loss in a home. Water wicked into sheetrock leaves it in a weakened state and creates a perfect environment for mold spore germination. It can start as fast as 24-hours and once established, mold colonies spread quickly. Technicians lower ambient humidity to unsustainable levels for mold existence, abate any colonies and follow up with the application of antimicrobial products.

Signs of Cross-Contamination
If the HVAC is running or traffic continues through the fire loss area in a home, odor-causing soot spreads throughout the house and requires cleaning. The tip-off is the smell of smoke in areas of the home without fire damage. SERVPRO technicians use containment and in some cases negative air chambers to stop cross-contamination during fire damage cleanup and restoration.

SERVPRO of Bristol is always ready to clean up and restore fire damage for local property owners. Our technicians are trained, certified, and available 24/7 at (860) 582-3330.

Stain And Discoloration Management Is Crucial After A Water Damage Incident In Your Burlington Home

9/13/2019 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

Stain And Discoloration Management Is Part Of Water Damage Restoration In Burlington

Dusting the furniture in your Burlington home after a party involves clearing away drinks and other items. When a watermark on a wooden table shows up, treating the wood right away keeps the damage from becoming permanent. This is true of many kinds of damage and why we strive to mitigate a house and its contents as rapidly as possible.

Homeowners in Burlington notice signs of water damage in many forms. Discoloration and staining make things look dirty, no matter how much you clean. We use different cleansers and other products to undo the damage caused by water from broken pipes, overflowed sinks and tubs, and other sources of water. Our building services department can handle plumbing issues, making our work more cost-effective for you.

Besides showing up as stains, water damage can materialize in other ways. Windowsills and door frames can deteriorate or warp, decreasing security and strength. Many stains can hide or mimic the look of microbial infestations on walls and ceilings. Cabinet doors and other varnished wood can peel and flake, leaving them bare and unprotected.
SERVPRO’s water damage technicians (WRT) use unique formulations that eliminate stains and other signs of the presence of water. After excessive moisture in the area decreases to non-damaging amounts, we can start working on restoring finishes on wood and removing stains from other surfaces.

Our building and reconstructive services can plane down warped window frames and doorways, so they open and close correctly. New locking mechanisms to replace previous ones can restore security. Sealing with a stain blocker and then repainting often suffices. However, severe deterioration might require the installation of new frames.

We might use a stain blocker on walls and ceilings. Slow leaks in overhead locations can cause discoloration. Because of the unevenness, this staining might look like mold or mildew. Instead, the color comes from the bleeding-through of minute particles in the drywall itself. Once dry, we can paint over the stain blocker and have your home looking beautiful again.

Where the finish on cabinets and doors show peeled away areas, the wood can become overly dry, and the pores can enlarge, allowing dirt to enter. Abrasive soils can wear down wood from the inside, as well as create significant discoloration. We use a creme paste to remove the topmost layer of varnish gently, so a new coating of varnish or other sealer applies evenly.

SERVPRO of Bristol’s specialists can be found working on homes and businesses in Plainville, New Hartford, and around Pleasant Valley. When stains and discolorations are making your home uncomfortable, call us at (860) 582-3330. We can help mitigate and restore your home, so water damage disappears, “Like it never even happened.”

Plainville Plumbing Has Failed Me!

Imagine that the plumbing in your old Plainville home suddenly decides to quit on you by cracking and allowing water to seep into your carpet, your beautiful hardwood floors and your furniture.  Every step you take, you feel the squish of your shoes as you notice the water impregnating your walls as well. Your well-meaning friends may come over with a rented wet/dry vacuum and reassurances that they will get everything back to normal.  However, eliminating water from your home can be more complicated than you realize.

A professional service such as SERVPRO is the answer to your water damage needs, even if you think your job is not big enough to warrant a team of experts.  Without expert advice, you run the risk of leaving water remains within wall cavities or under flooring materials which can cause problems in the future.  Excess humidity is prime real estate for mold and bacteria, and they thrive in this environment. By using the tools and techniques available to our team, you can prevent complications.

Even though our SERVPRO crew is the one holding infrared moisture sensors, wand extractors and drying mats, homeowners also play an essential role in the water removal process.  For starters, identifying and repairing broken plumbing is essential. Until the leak is under control, you cannot achieve a successful job. Second, you should protect your dry belongings by moving them away from the soaked through rooms.  Along the same line, you should encourage air circulation by opening windows and plugging in any fans or dehumidifiers at your disposal.  Even the rented wet/dry vacuum is a good idea; it is just not thorough enough to protect you from other threats.

SERVPRO of Bristol is at your service regardless of the size of your disaster.  Our staff is available 24/7 by calling (860) 582-3330, and we have the formal instruction and field experience to back up our water restoration efforts.  Like you, we aim to restore your home with as little disruption as possible, so pick up the phone and let us leave your home, "Like it never even happened."

How Professionals Dry Water Damaged Factories in Burlington

8/20/2019 (Permalink)

Water damage can shudder a factory. SERVPRO has the experience and training to get your factory back into the production process.

Standard Equipment Used for Commercial Water Removal and Drying Out of Burlington Factories

An incident involving a deluge of water from a broken pipe or clogged sink can leave your factory in Burlington soaked. Increased water vapor can dampen materials and equipment that avoided the initial onslaught. Because of this possibility, we use sophisticated equipment to locate elevated amounts of moisture.

The different types of equipment we use when mitigating factories and other businesses in Burlington make our commercial water removal methods more efficient.  This equipment helps save our customers money and reduces downtime significantly. When we work non-stop at mitigating a disaster's scope, we also decrease the damages experienced.

Helping our customers stabilize their business helps increase the likelihood of a full recovery. Such catastrophes can cause the closure of different stages along a factory's production line, increase the possibilities of slip and fall accidents, and change the interior environment into one more conducive to developing microbial decay and odors.

We use extraction units to pull water up out of carpet and padding, preventing it from spreading out to any additional areas. Powered by the strength of our pump trucks, these crucial pieces of equipment, either in the form of mats or portable units we maneuver by hand, extract low-level standing water. Deeper levels of water, often seen in flooding, deserve our submersible units. Regardless of the depth of water on your factory's floors, we have an answer to the situation.

Because of the vertical nature of walls, we must use equipment that uses a different mechanism to draw out any absorbed water. Air currents pull moisture from the surfaces of walls and ceilings (except where trapped water exists) through normal evaporation. Increasing the rate of evaporation with the use of air movers or box fans angled at the walls forces water located deeper in the materials to come to the surface steadily. Once there, it also ends up in the air as water vapor.

Another one of the equipment pieces that we heavily rely on is the desiccant machines. These strip air passing through them of the water vapor and expels it as dry air. In a standard setup, we direct air currents, so they push dry air across wet surfaces and then push that now-wet air toward a dehumidifier. When possible, we also utilize open windows to decrease the need for dehumidification.

To remove water when walls and ceilings trap it inside building cavities, we drain a series of tiny holes in as inconspicuous an area as possible. When the water drains off, we can hook up machinery that pumps dry air into the enclosed space. Drying such locations prevents mold without needing to dismantle any materials, which can involve repainting surfaces.

SERVPRO of Bristol wants to help make your factory operational again after a disaster. Water removal techniques come into play in much of our restoration work. Call us at (860) 582-3330 when your business needs experts who understand the implications affecting your company. We serve Plainville, New Hartford, and Pleasant Valley, day and night, year-round.

Flood Loss Prevention for Burlington Homes

Flooding can be a devastating and destructive situation for multiple Burlington homes simultaneously, which makes it all the more tempting to remedy these conditions on your own and avoid having to reach out to professional restoration technicians. Unfortunately, many residents and property owners lack any experience or safety training to prevent injury or exposure to potentially contaminated standing water. Flood loss prevention solutions, however, can help you to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and irreparable damage at the earliest onset of flooding.

Understanding your role in limiting Burlington home flood damage starts with appreciating when a situation has gotten out of your control. While you have initial tasks that can limit loss, the full recovery of your property is often a very intricate and involved process. Our SERVPRO professionals have years of experience and accreditations from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to be among the most reputable and knowledgeable for all area customers in their times of crisis.

Multiple initial steps can get taken that can reduce the devastation from invading water and its pooling effect in some regions of the house. By working through some or all of these suggestions, you can help professionals like our SERVPRO team to work even more efficiently in restoring your damaged property fully.

  • If you have preventative products like sandbags or barriers that you can still safely install and use, it can reduce the volume of floodwater that penetrates the property.
  • Remove all items from rooms that are most likely to suffer flood effects. Even those out of direct exposure can still become damaged by an increase in humidity and moisture content levels.
  • Close vents and registers where possible and shut off your air conditioning or heating so that it does not circulate potential contaminants, mold spores, or other particulates.

While it is challenging for homeowners to address the full measure of flood damage to their properties on their own, you can count on the fast and confident response of our SERVPRO of Bristol team. Fast Action Is Crucial After A Flood In Your Bristol Property

6/24/2019 (Permalink)

We're here every day of the year, without exception.

Commercial Sites Recover Faster When SERVPRO Mitigates The Flood Damage Affecting Bristol Area Retailers

Water of any type can damage retail stores in Bristol. Flooding brings about other risks that keep shops closed longer than the water from a broken pipe. Bacteria and other pathogens get lodged into cracks and crevices in floorboards, as do the sediment washed into buildings. A multitude of issues happens across the entire building and addressing each in its entirety is the only way to reopen a closed store.

Retailers and shop owners in Bristol affected by commercial flood damage have different ways of reacting to such disasters. They can minimize the costs associated with recovery efforts by using a service that does both mitigation and restoration. Another way is to already have a plan to respond to both isolated disasters and those that happen to our community. SERVPRO takes our community's business health seriously.

We help with prevention efforts that protect a business from the costly harm that flooding causes retail stores by offering our Emergency READY Profile. The READY Profile puts all of the crucial information in one place where it is always available to both managers and our office. It takes only a few moments to access, showing our crews the location of power boxes and other important information specific to your building. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster when responding to a crisis, but having such information means we can begin mitigation faster than we could otherwise.

Another way SERVPRO helps to save companies money is by mitigating the damaged areas and restoring as much as possible in favor of replacing materials. The cost of replacing materials can reach much higher than restoring them. Having a company that can provide all the services needed saves money and provides a continuous service that speeds up the entire process.

Many business's inventory survives the initial flood, so we need to protect it from succumbing to the high humidity that happens inside buildings with large amounts of water. We provide temporary warehouse storage that can keep your unscathed inventory and office equipment safe. This also helps our mitigation experts in cleaning your building and gives them additional space for machinery.
As soon as we finish getting the damage eradicated, our restoration crew can begin making things like new for you. Your business's recovery from flood damage means you can reopen a store that is safe for both your employees and your customers.

When flooding and other terrible weather damages your retail shop in Burlington, Plainville, or New Hartford, call SERVPRO of Bristol at our 24-hour service number, (860) 582-3330. We're here every day of the year, without exception.

Plainville Homeowners Know to Call SERVPRO when Storms Affect Their Properties

Badly Weathered Roof Shingles Can Cause Flooding Problems in Plainville Properties--SERVPRO Can Dry Out Your Home

Isolated Flood Damage in Your Plainville Home Can Happen after Hail Storms

In the summertime, why worry about the winter? It is wise to be prepared. Hail storms hurtling ice at your home in Plainville can leave vehicles, lawn furniture, and other outside structures dented, showing the power of hail and your roof can also suffer. If a damaged roof only looks unharmed because you do not see any visibly loosened shingles, rain from the next storm can drench your home through an opening in the roof.

Helping homeowners cope with various disasters, including mitigation of flood damage in Plainville, SERVPRO knows how to help when rainwater coming in through the roof causes serious problems. Hail hits more than your roof and the items around your lawn and driveway, however.

Hail can also dent gutters and cause them to drain incorrectly. Once damaged like this, rainwater can splash up against our home's exterior and leak into the wall's interior. Moisture barriers in exterior walls can make it more difficult for trapped water to evaporate during the drying part of the mitigation process. Hail can damage the sides of your home, also letting water into these enclosed spaces.

SERVPRO uses standardized methods designed to get these areas dry, just like the rest of your home. Where we can drill small openings for our Injectidry's tubing so we can force warm, dry air into interior walls, we need to dismantle and separate a wet exterior wall's components. Some of the components found inside exterior walls may be salvaged like insulation, while we need to throw others away and replace them. Many forms of insulation that become wet no longer can protect your home like they did when first installed. Closed-cell insulation is the only one that does not suffer from the presence of water. Saving other kinds of insulation in nearby areas can happen as long as we get the wall dried out quickly before moisture invades that area. There is always the threat of mold development.

We have everything we need to mitigate damage, including equipment to both air-dry your property and to wipe things clean wherever needed. Carpeting and tile, as well as wood floors that got soaked fare better with overhead sources of flood damage than those that sustain flooding coming underneath your doorway. We give floors the attention needed to keep existing damage from becoming permanent. Our advanced mat drying system for hardwoods can save many a floor for our customer, and money and inconvenience, also.

SERVPRO of Bristol can help homeowners by mitigating all forms of flood damage, including that caused by storms, hail, and other forces of nature. Contact us by calling (860) 582-3330, which is our 24-hour service line. We are always here to mitigate the damage affecting homes in Pequabuck, Bakersville, and New Hartford.

Our water damage specialists will respond quickly which will prevent mold growth, limit further damage, and reduce your restoration cost.

Reliable Professional Results Explains Why SERVPRO Is the Answer for Burlington Water Damage

When a water loss interrupts your comfortable life in Burlington recovery from the mayhem momentarily seems impossible. Partnering with our water emergency mitigation crews pushes aside that helpless feeling fast. Our highly-qualified technicians have the skills, training, and specialized equipment to manage any water disaster. Providing solutions to the harm water causes is a cornerstone of our company, a significant reason why we exist.

Water damage in your Bristol home can result from leaky roofs or plumbing, appliance malfunction, or inattention. An overflowing tub, dishwasher breakdown, or heavy rains all share the tendency to soak into carpeting, drywall, hardwood floors, or ceiling tiles, among other fixtures or structural components. A rapid removal of standing water and reduction of lingering moisture absorbed by materials in your home is the best way to limit permanent damage. These tasks are difficult to compete as a DIY project, which is why engaging our services is a wise move.

When we arrive to evaluate the scenario at your dwelling, an experienced crew leader assesses the water damage. Extensive training developed the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) forms the foundation of our employees’ water loss mitigation approach. The research-based strategies we employ are why SERVPRO delivers on our promise to make it “Like it never even happened.”

A plan is developed swiftly, and our technicians begin water removal as soon as possible. Every minute counts during water damage mitigation, which is why SERVPRO vehicles carry a full complement of pumps, extractors, and drying equipment. No delay is necessary for deploying our commercial-quality equipment. Measurement of moisture levels and scanning for hidden pockets of water updates our crew who then adapt to address the data.

Structural drying follows water removal, and the careful charting of moisture readings in porous material is why SERVPRO can design effective drying perimeters. Air movers and heaters force water out of structural components, wet to dry, and our high-efficiency dehumidifiers contain the resultant water vapor for disposal outside your home.

Training, experience, and cutting edge equipment are why SERVPRO of Bristol halts water damage and returns your home to preloss condition. Call us at (860) 582-3330 for a speedy consultation.

Is Water Damage Keeping Your Bristol Office From Doing Business?

5/6/2019 (Permalink)

Has your office experienced a water damage event? Call SERVPRO of Bristol to remediate you flood damaged property.

Critical Steps Professionals Take during Commercial Water Removal in Bristol Offices

Water intrusion in an office may not be an everyday event. However, if it does happen, it can leave widespread damages. The steps taken immediately after identifying the problem can have a significant impact on the outcome of the entire incident.  One way to manage the level of damages left in your property after the incident is to call a professional water restoration team immediately because they have advanced equipment and training to handle the removal.

The resources needed for commercial water removal in Bristol offices differ depending on the intrusion sources. An intrusion from the roof affects many items including ceilings, contents and floor materials. There might be a need to protect contents if stopping the source is not possible immediately. Our SERVPRO technicians can install plastic sheets to protect contents or isolate severely damaged areas.  Some water sources such as burst pipes might also dump significant amounts of water in the affected areas necessitating the use of advanced extraction equipment. We use truck-mounted or portable water extractors depending on the situation.

Apart from pooling on the floors, the water that spills permeates different materials necessitating additional removal steps. Glued down carpets which are a common feature in many offices absorb water readily. They can also bubble due to loss of adhesiveness. Our SERVPRO technicians assess the situation and determine whether to remove the carpet or do in-place extraction of the water.

After a case of water intrusion, a considerable amount of moisture remains after the initial extraction steps. Drying such moisture requires an increase in evaporation rate and extraction of humidity from the air. Professionals use air movers and dehumidifiers for this purpose. Our SERVPRO technicians can also use plastic sheets to isolate smaller areas to improve the rate of drying. We call such isolation, creating drying chambers. We also do calculations to determine the number of dehumidifiers and air movers to use.

To respond appropriately after water intrusion in your Burlington, Plainville or New Hartford office, call SERVPRO of Bristol at (860) 582-3330. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

You need a team that can respond quickly to the emergency with the equipment and expertise to make a difference fast. Our professionals have a 24-hour available response to any emergency or disaster, making sure that you never have to wait for the effective mitigation and restoration work that your building requires during a spreading water loss incident.

Within a brief period, this saturation can render a porous material like sheetrock unsalvageable, making a prompt response from our SERVPRO team essential to limiting out-of-pocket expenses for recovery.

This machine can force water from the carpets and subflooring to the surface for extraction by the high-powered onboard vacuum system. In many cases, with the right timely response to the emergency, the carpeted areas of your office can get preserved and restored entirely with no need for replacement.

Our team of IICRC certified technicians can also move around desk, furnishings, fixtures, and expensive electronic equipment to dry areas of the office suites. Blocks can be placed under heavy desks and other furniture for protection again water damage that ruins finishes and can rust.

Extractions and drying of exposed elements like drywall and the cavities behind them require specialized equipment like our high-velocity air movers, our dehumidifiers, and our injecti-dry system. These can help to eliminate the need for removing portions of the drywall to access and dry out moisture in the space behind them. We can check our progress with the use of our thermal imagery cameras that detect moisture pockets.

Many steps are part of the restoration of water damage in your office space. The faster that you can reach out to professionals like our SERVPRO of Bristol team, the quicker your office can return to routine operations. Mold?

2/7/2018 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
